+1 to Cabrera winning the MVP. I guess they can measure things with stats. I never knew.
Not to take the focus off Cabrera...but I fail to see how Davis's 87' season (where he finished 9th in the MVP voting) isn't as good as Trout's 2012
Davis played in 10 less games and had 77 less PA than Trout. Had more HR's, RBI's, and SB's. He only scored 9 less runs and was batting in the middle of the order...he also had an OPS that was about 30 points higher than Trout. Davis also struck out less, and walked more.
Trout beats Davis in some other areas (hits, triples and doubles)...
I guess the fawning over Trout is just annoys me....he's a great player...and may very well be one of the best ever if his career continues to improve. But the constant act of "we've never seen a player like this" is just stupid.
Great year for MC. Do you know why Cabrera's season was great? I'll give you a hint: It has nothing to do with the Triple Crown.
It's really cool that Cabrera happened to be at the top of three historically revered statistics. Again, great season for sure. Just not as good a season as Trout.

There were also .8 more runs scored in an average game in 1987 as compared to 2012, and Davis also had a ballpark advantage. OPS at Riverfront Stadium in 1987 (for all players) was .773. OPS at Angel Stadium in 2012 (for all players) was .705.
MVP isn't only about stats. Cabrera's team won the pennant, the Angels were a disappointment.
As far as 1961, I can only wish we always had MVP competitions like Maris' 61 dingers vs. Mantle and the Tiger's sluggers (although Gentile was found to use a corked bat that year). That must have been an exciting year for baseball.

Making the playoffs is 10% about how well you play, and 90% about how well your teammates play. A player on the Astros could have hit .500 with 100 HRs, and they probably wouldn't have made the playoffs.

Are you sure about Gentile? I heard about Norm Cash corking his bat, but not Gentile. I think expansion in 61 led to the AL offensive explosion that year.

<< <i>Congrats to the 2012 MVP! >>

Both players lead their teams to the World Series. Here, they depart home plate area at the same time upon the conclusion of the 2012 season.

OPS+
Trout - 171
Davis - 155
Pretty big edge on defense for Trout too.

The Angels won more games than the Tigers anyway.
