the forum has undergone a few code changes and a lot of posts have been nerfed due to that. the upgrades were/are nice but came a steep cost as i all but refuse to make elaborate posts anymore because each time dozens/hundreds of posts have to be updated to accommodate the new coding language.
if you have image hosted in the same location, it is simple matter of putting that url into the new upload image code. all you need to do is probably hit quote on your post to see the original location as that has worked for me in the past. now if they were directly uploaded long ago, not sure what to do about that one.
it has been a crazy journey hunting down the old StacksBowers archives which was lost or hidden with their photo which after 5 years of frustration I finally found!,
Now I have to contact Todd Pollack to find out where his better photos are located.

By matching the cancellation marks with known reverse dies with mintmarks, I would guess the that the 1872 was used in Carson City and the 1882 was used in San Francisco.
I am waiting for CAC to offer a slabbing service for these big cancelled dies.
I hope you are kidding!

I just love original dies. Glad you were able to add this historical piece to your collection @oreville !
I know its been almost 11 years since you won it, but I think you got an incredible deal back then.

Lakesammman : I was not kidding. Only NGC currently offers such a huge slab. It is scary shipping such cancelled die by USPS to NGC, I spoke with JA and he promised that eventually but not very soon CACG will offer such a huge slab for the cancelled die. That would allow me to hand deliver/pick up such cancelled die from CAC instead.

It will be protected and not put back to work minting restrikes. Fred Weinberg, the former owner and the consigner, also resisted putting it back to work and stressing a then 125 year old die. It is now 151 years old. We must be kind to our elderly ancestors!

Problem solved and Todd’s photos restored!
i got a crazy telephone call demanding why this cancelled die was not graded by PCGS or NGC let alone getting stickered by CAC.
$20 Liberty Obverse Canceled Dies are super cool. Here are two other ones that I handled years ago.

WOW .. this die is celebrating its 150 th anniversary!!!
I wonder what the market pundits think it would sell for in 2022?
Not that I am looking to sell it but trying to keep myself educated.
Daniel Carr recently struck some morgan dollars from cancelled dies... it would be mighty cool to have a cancelled $20 overstrike.
Does anyone know if a reverse double eagle die was found with the others?
It's all about what the people want...
Not that i am aware of. The experts to ask is Byers (Mike Byers) and fredweinberg (Fred Weinberg) .
TTT for another poster to view.
Incredible piece of history!
Great thread as well, thanks.

I am very happy to learn that JA is open to conduct his business in such a forthcoming and imaginative manner, bravo!
