The sad part of all this is i didnt find them first, they were found about 50 miles from where i live,, and yes it does happen around here,,, we had a guy who found an old tin of fire crackers from a general store owner from years ago that sold for thousands and thousands of dollars, i knew the guy who bought them at an estate auction, it was also a closed down general store that left over stuff was just kept in the attic for years, they were rare rare rare labels never seen before, so yes it does happen, this area is noted for them finds,, j
I wander why we have seen no photos of the actual find. If i found them i would take photos and record the moment to re-live it again and again. People want evidence and photos to verify. I think they were found awhile ago in a different location and under different circumstances and this was the best story to capture the publics attention.

I don't know many people that take cameras up into attics to document what they may find. It would most likely be brought down and gone through on the kitchen table or something similar. And if that happened there may very well be pictures. They very well may be kept private for a reason, though.

I believe the find to be legit. PSA has experts that are far more knowledgeable than the majority on these boards and I highly doubt they would just grade them without asking the same questions knowing their reputation is on the line. No one can say for sure that there has to be yellowing on all of the cards after 100 years and without seeing the exact way they were stored then all we are doing here is speculating with no facts to back it up.
Everyone has the right to be skeptical when things like this are discovered. In fact, at PSA, we are in the business of being skeptical due to the type of work we do at the company.
I just want to make a few suggestions:
For those who are skeptical, please search the Internet for interviews with the family. There are some great interviews that contain footage of the home, stories about their grandfather, etc.
It can help provide some background for those of you who don't know the entire story.
In additon, on our own website, we did picture one of the cards that was subject to the elements and not protected like the majority of the find. It is the PSA Good 2 Joe Tinker in the following article.
whats so unusual? Although usually not as valuable overall and not as many total cards, important vintage finds happen quite often, actually every few years there seems to be a good one. ie Tango Egg find, Herpolshiemer (1921 style) find, Western Playground Association find, Holmes to Homes find, W555 uncut box find, T206 Drum back (most trimmed) find, Colgans Tintop find, Alpha Photo Engraving set find, 1919 Black Sox team issue set find, Allegheny Game cards set find, Honey Boy set find, R304 find, R314-5 (w/Detroit players) find, Star Player Candy/Dockman/Fleer unopened find, Blue Bird Soda Babe Ruth (forward view) find, E222 find, Boston Garter find, Lections find, 1926 Sports Co. find, Uncle Jack Candy find,
This is the biggest as far as PreWar high grade untouched "E" cards goes. E98 cards are not rare or scarce, but they are if you compare them to T205, T206.
IMO, If the rumor of 700 total in the find was more like 100, then the prices would have been far higher on these early high end lots. the market will be saturated with these high grade E98s no matter what the seller does, its just way too many high grade cards found at one time...
In my experience, executives in any company are the last ones that "know how to" do anything technical. No offense Joe. >>
this often applies no matter where you work.....I retired after 35 years working for DoD and found the comment to be often true and I now work part time stocking shelves at a local grocery store and have found that those in charge or making up the rules are sometimes devoid of technical skills........
