There is an artist named Josh Rouse who I stumbled upon when he opened for Golden Smog (another story entirely) in 1998. He was promoting his debut "Dressed Up Like Nebraska" and I fell in love with his stuff. Next 2 times I saw him he opened for David Gray and Cowboy Junkies and then he finally got his own gig at Schuba's. I didn't miss a single show for 5 albums. In 2007 he decided to hit Chicago the night of my wedding. Tried to negotiate him stopping over at the reception for 2 songs. In summary, nothing.

He moved to Spain, doesn't touch his first three albums in concert anymore, is kinda thin skinned, but can still right a mean song. I do not buy his albums any more.

They absolutely were. They did call it quits but they came back to do two memorial shows for Dave Blood and then since then have played a few more times in Philly and a couple of other random places. The last time I saw them was December and they played their entire new cd from start to finish straight through and some older songs at the end. I heard tonight was supposed to be some sort of acoustic show. I hope one of my friends was able to get tickets and tell me what happened.

They haven't really gone on tour so to speak rather just popping up and playing some shows or festivals.

If you haven't hear the new cd and are interested you can check out below.

<< <i>Of bands you might know:

This is a great thread. Another great thread would be: If you could put the original band together (i.e no Beatles or Clash - maybe the Stones) what would you pay? I think the band that COULD reunite that would get the most bread for the reunion tour would be the Smiths. >>

In Europe/Australia/Japan - probably the Smiths. In the US I wouldn't think the Smiths would be playing arenas...at least in smaller cities. So I'm not so sure a reformed Talking Heads wouldn't outdraw them...as I'm sure would many a classic rock/arena rock band would as well. Van Halen, Styx with Rich & DeYoung, or some similar dreck.

I also suspect we've crossed paths at Schuba's at least twice (for the Boatman)...although I'm more of a Gizmos guy when it comes to D. Lawrence projects. At least in terms of recordings as they were before my time.

I envy your Cave and Fugazi experiences. I saw Fugazi at a time when I didn't appreciate them (and Tar pretty much took my hearing). If I had one show I could have back and see again, it would be them at the Aragon in 93. I never saw Mr. Cave or Grinderman and they are at the top of my must see list .

I have made a couple trades/sales with board members but have not met anyone personally. I will be in touch after Christmas to see if you are going to the annual January Boatmen show. It would be a pleasure to buy you a Schlitz and tell you my Matt Speake called-me-a-buttstain-and-apologized-15-years-later story.

I've seen Tool probably close to 20 times since first seeing them at Ozzfest '98 in Akron, Ohio. You can add about a dozen more shows if you include A Perfect Circle and Puscifer. I'm obsessed with anything Maynard James Keenan does, even down to the wine he makes in Arizona.

I've seen Rush between 50 to 60 times. They're just a great live band, and it's been nice on the last few tours as they no longer use an opening band.

My first show, in 1984, only cost me $15. I'll be seeing them twice on their upcoming fall tour -- one of my tickets has a face value of $145 (with fees). How times have changed...

Funny you mention that because Ive heard numerous times they did not put on a good show however I bet back in the late 80's when they first started out they did, I rember back in 91 I think they did a great version of knocking on heavens door on mtv.

    Skid Row- 3 times
AC/DC- 2 times (they were tight!)
Bon Jovi- 2 times (early 2000s and Jon's voice had weakened a lot)
    Metallica- 1 time

Wish I could see (or have seen):

Pearl Jam, ZZ Top, Beasties, Alice in Chains, Van Halen (about 1983)

As for Guns n' Roses, they are many people's ultimate "wish I could have seen", but I have only heard of a handful of people ever say they were good live. I think they only saved good performances for televised events (i.e. Live at The Ritz in 1988). Too bad because their set list by 1991 had all the makings for a fist-pumpin concert experience.

ha, this thread is great b/c it shows the OCD type trait and hyperinterest in cards for some people and music definitley overlap as there are numerous people on here that have seen bands 10, 20, 30, up to 100 times (tho for the guy above who saw UM 112 times..) which is probably waaayyyy more than if you stopped random people on the street and asked them how many times they have seen one band, most people would probably peak at twice for any one performer.

Love this post and all the great bands/artists that everyone has seen!

1st concert: The Beatles w/ my mom in 1966 in Cincinnati.
Still one of the most amazing concerts I have ever seen. Left a huge impression on
a music loving 7 year old. I know I'm old!

1st concert w/out my folks: My older cousin Mike took me to see Hendrix in 1970 in
Baltimore. Most amazing ARTIST I have seen to this day. As much as music changed
because of him it's scary to think what could have been. He was only getting started.

Most concerts: BRUCE!!!! 154 AND STILL COUNTING. 1st in 1976 at the old Capital Centre
in Maryland. 1st concert I went to on my own with friends. I think he played for over 6 hours,
at least that's how I remember it. Makes the concerts and artists today seem like lightweights.

Best Springsteen concert ever was at a bar called The Bottle & Cork on the Easatern Shore.
Bruce and the band just showed up, took over the place and jammed all night. I just happened
to be at the beach that week and lucked into the best "FREE" concert I will ever see. I even bought
Little Steven a beer! Crazy, Crazy night!!!

Last concert seen: The Black Keys at Merriweather in May with my 18 year old son. Best newish band
playing today! Love pulling the music full circle with my own kids!

Rock and Roll will keep you young at heart!

    Never stop loving The Music!!!

I second that. GNR was the worst band live ever. I thought Axel's voice sounded like an abused cat getting stomped on and they always makes you wait 4-5 hours after the opening band(s) to show up.

Pearl Jam 4 times. First time Oct 2 1996

Guns n Roses 3 times. Unfortunately I was too young to ever see them with slash. My first gnr show was 01-01-01 in vegas on new years eve. Show was good just because I loved gnr and had no idea what to expect from the new band.. But the group of freak shows he had in the band were disappointing.. One of the buffones had a KFC bucket on hs head and called himself buckethead

I get the feeling no-one here likes country (or least least is willing to admit it)! I know it gets a bad rep sometimes for being sappy or whatever, but there is some really good stuff out there.

Here is a country song that alot of people who like rock should be able to like (I admit any change in genre can take some getting used to and personally I never like many songs the first time I hear them).

I like alot of music such as Billy Joel and Elton and some other classic rock, so it's really not that far of a stretch to enjoy these as well.

    Cowboys didn't dance by Lonestar

Here is another one that is almost a cross (like some Eagles songs).

Fast Moving Train by Restless Heart

Now, for some pure, old style, twangy country that might take your ears some adjusting to, here is a favorite of mine from 'The 'Hag'

Tonight the Bottle Let Me Down by Merle Haggard

Coming of age in Chicago during the 90's the bands we would go see all the time were:
    Material Issue
    Screeching Weasel
    Smoking Popes

I know they may not be household names to many on here but if you get the time check them out. As for national acts I guess it would be:

On the other hand I have made sure to see the Cure in every tour here in the States from 1999 (year I graduated HS) till now, even going to CA if they did not play in my hometown.
