Take the inventory of either -- Legend v. CRO

lavalava Posts: 3,286 ✭✭✭
Assuming the dollar valuations are the same, would you rather take the inventory of Legend or CRO. They seem to focus on very different aspects of the market.

May merit a poll.

At this stage in my collecting, I'd choose CRO. You?

    Apples vs oranges.

CRO does much more colonial and some foreign which Legend does not do much of at all.

Legend also does scarcer coins as well as more condition rarities which CRO does not do much of.

I don't know if one could reasonably answer that question given the very different niche areas that the two firms participate in and the fact that the Legend inventory generally totals to such a high number that another quality firm, such as CRO, could not possibly hope to expand their business to that dollar value while maintaining their current level of quality and focus.

Would have to go with CRO
  • Are you kidding? Maybe I'll call both of them and tell them inquiring minds want to know!

Apples and oranges, and I buy both. Given my druthers, I would take apples. image

Actually, CRO inventory tends to intersect my collection at more points than Legend's.

Legend NEVER seems to carry Mercury Dimes unless they are from 1939 with color and high grade. Silly! I think I have seen rarer and better Mercury Dimes on CRO's site even though it is seldom.

I can only look at so many Morgan Dollars and Patterns...geez!

CRO carries stuff with awesome history associated with it that is both beautiful and rare...Legend seems to carry grade rarities which are beautiful but frequently they are just common coins.

Both have nice, NICE coins! But...I'd take Legend's Inventory. They have more of my taste.

If they were the same both would be going broke, by hitting different parts of the market they are both Top of their line dealers.
Edit to add that I feel Pinnacle Rarities needs to be added to the list.
BTW all are normally above my price point.image

    CRO coin showcase

I made this showcase set a little while back, and I could probably make one for Legend acquisitions, too. My Legend purchases tend to be higher grade gold coins, with an occasional type coin or pattern, while my CRO purchases tend to be a an eclectic mix of colonials, type coins, gold, and foreign items which reflects their typical inventory selection.

CRO. Legend's inventory frequently includes dated gold and seated liberty silver neither of which I am interested in (but I'm sure many more are).

  • Legend.
I didn't have a clue what CRO meant. Followed the link. Maybe I wasn't looking in the right spot, but the inventory wasn't very special at all.

CRO would probably take the inventory of Legend. Then they'd have both market segments covered.

    I just perused CRO's inventory.

I know nothing about Conder tokens but I got a great kick out of viewing their 1800 monopolizer 1P, DH-239 variety.

I haven't laughed so hard in awhile as I did studying the enlarged photos and accompanying write-up.

Yes these two dealers offer very different material, so it is an apples to oranges comparison, but I was not asking for a comparison. I simply wanted to know if offered one, which one would you take. Interesting to see the number of people taking the road less taken.

What a strange question. They both have nice coins so you can't really go wrong picking either.

I say go CRO. Interesting coins in solid, high grades. And you get a free baseball cap if you buy one. One day ...

They both have great coins and great approaches to the market.

For this question, I'd probably disregard what I normally collect and go with the collection that I thought had the greater WOW factor for me.

When comes to high priced, high grade material, Legend wins the race easily. When comes to coins that interest me the most, CRO (And, yes, I had click on the link to see who you were talking about.) CRO is winner. I think the better strategy might be to take Legend's inventory, sell it and then buy CRO's inventory. You would probably have some money left over. image

When I speak about coins that interest me, a coin like this would not be Legend's cup of tea.

I'd go with Legend, just because they sell what I collect. I have only bought a couple from them. I have not had the pleasure of dealing with CRO, yet.

Obviously, the only way to settle this is to having a boxing match between Laura and a tag-team of John and Dave.
