Modern Walking Liberty Dollars --- at the bank!

This afternoon during my lunch break, I stopped in at a "new favorite" bank branch to deposit a check. Lo and behold, the teller mentioned that he had six of the large dollar coins. So, I'm thinking, "cool, a couple of Ikes." He pulls them out, and I instantly notice something amiss. Two of the coins are noticeably larger. It turns out, two of the coins were 1987 Modern Walking Lib dollars. Yes the ones that are stamped "1 Oz Fine Silver".
In all my years, I have never seen a modern bullion coin in a bank teller's drawer. The coin says flat out that it is pure silver. To think that someone thought is was only a dollar, and deposited it at a bank. (correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't know if these coins were every available for sale for $1.) Then, the teller had to think it was only a dollar. and no body else asked about it.
Then, the best part..... he sold them to me for a buck each.

After spending time repackaging and returning the coins I was cured of the itch to order more.
I'll stay "cured' provided I don't read any more threads about bank silver scores.

<< <i>I just went thru $500 in Halves from my Bank and got skunked. I'm glad someone is having a better day, congrats. >>
Doh, gettying skunked on $800 in halves about 2 years ago put a stop to roll searching.

Getting these things at a face value price is fair if that's what they exchanged them for. For the tellers that are more studied and savy, they likely keep them. If you have the skill and knowledge, which represents your work study to know what they are, you deserve to get them.
Many members on this forum that now it cannot fit in my signature. Please ask for entire list.
Nice score!!! I've gotten some 40% halves at the bank before and a couple of 90% halves, but never a 1 oz. Silver Eagle!!!!

I've seen too many "I found 22 Morgans" or "full rolls of Franklins" posts.........dream world candidates. I believe it is a very rare occurance.
My experience has been that tellers even hold onto SBA's and crappy Ike's, even early 70's Kennedy's thinking they are like "gold" and are worth tons of money. When they finally realize they are only worth face value they are heart broken.
My teller proudly showed me the ASE she recd from a customer. It was in her purse already.
I guess they make to the banks every now and then.
