Many here know or are at least familiar with Hard Times tokens and other privately minted US tokens,

......do not understand "Conder" or British private tokens and how they are so very closely related to US tokens and coinage
In my opinion this information belongs on the US coin side as the "Darksiders" already know this.
And many Colonial coinage(tokens) are Conder tokens.
I thought I would give a link to what I feel is one of the best explanations of British tokens and they are tied into American tokens and coinage.
I hope will bring some to understand how they are closely related.
There are a few pages of reading but at the top of the page is a video and if you have the time to watch the
video it is quite entertaining and informative.

Edited to correct afew things since I did this on my iPad

He was kind enough to allow his article on my website.
I think the video......even though quite long gives an excellent insight into minting private money and setting up real minting processes

Thank you so much for this post. I truly enjoyed the video(all one hour of it). I had no knowledge of such historical provenance of
the Conder Tokens.
I appreciate your work in providing the information.

It will feature the finest most extensive Conder token collection ever assembled by an American collector.

Frank, Why wouldn't you say who's collection it is - is it a secret? The only person I can think of who has the largest collection I know of is Jerry Bobbe so perhaps he is featuring his personal collection on a website? It would be appreciated if you wouldn't be so cryptic.

"These are the times that try men's souls." This simple quotation from Founding Father Thomas Paine's The American Crisis not
only describes the beginnings of the American Revolution, but also the life of Paine himself. Throughout most of his life, his writings inspired passion,
but also brought him great criticism. He communicated the ideas of the Revolution to common farmers as easily as to intellectuals,
creating prose that stirred the hearts of the fledgling United States. He had a grand vision for society:
he was staunchly anti-slavery, and he was one of the first to advocate a world peace organization and social security for the poor and elderly.
But his radical views on religion would destroy his success, and by the end of his life, only a handful of people attended his funeral.

<< <i>Did Condor tokens in any way appear in the circulating coppers either in the US or Canada? What is the "lowball" status of these or are all in a basically MS condition? >>
In a few words......they did not, however some Conder tokens found their way into circulation in the U.S. and are included in the Red Book under colonial coins.
They are similar to HTT's, CWT's and Merchant tokens, most were heavily used and some are very rare. Others were minted just for collectors.

DeWitt 1796-2 - As you can see Tom Paine was not a real popular fellow at this time.
DeWitt PM 1796-7 - But a few people still like him ...
<< <i>I'd wager that collector launching a informative site might be our own Broadstruck!! >>
I'll wager a wild guess and say Alan Fisher (of HTT fame). I've heard he's been accumulating Conders for some time now.

Welcome to these boards EXOJUNKIE
Sorry I haven't ventured back into this thread since Saturday and only did after seeing EXOJUNKIE post.
No it's not Jerry Bobbe nor me as I only actively buy and sell the scarcer varieties I do not collect these.
Yes it's Alan Fisher and it's no secret as anyone in the know of these tokens has known for months that his daughter has been constructing the site.
I don't appreciate being deemed cryptic as gosh if the suspense was killing anyone I would have answered this had I received a PM.
very cool terminal die states:
some rare Conders

No but nice try
Here's another later die stage... I normally avoid these but this example was purely purchased for the Blofield Calvary revere.
The color and luster on this one is amazing, it just doesn't come through in a pic.

Even more terminal die.........very cuddly I would say
edited to add this is the only reasonable way (price wise) to obtain a 1795 Cent Talbot &Blofield Cavalry
without spending about $10-12K

Yeah that almost like a big drop of liquid copper just sitting on obverse
Try $12-20K for a really nice Talbot / Blofield.

Yeah if you super glue a nice RB NGC Talbot, Allum, and Lee Token atop your slabbed Blofield you get away pretty cheap!

It's nice to see such vibrant and sharply struck copper from the 1700s.
For better or worse, I think the existence of Conders has somewhat dampened my enthusiasm for many US Colonials.
