Mark - that is an outstanding rack pack! Very nice.

And Paul - I don't think those '79s could be any sharper. Great additions to the amazing sets you've put together already.

Great stuff guys, looks like it's been a great year so far. My favorite, by far, is my 1985 Gary Carter gamer I picked up a few months ago, it's a great addition to the 1982 Expos home jersey I have had for a few years.

I'm a big fan of the '85 Carter jersey, Abe. That's a classic Mets team represented there!

And that's a fantastic Stengel auto - I don't think I've ever see any autographed items from him. It's nice that he signed it perfectly parallel with the printed auto. Nice pickup!

I just bought this set of tickets and they are currently in the lead for my favorite purchase of the year. Cannot wait to get them graded. On the way currently from ebay. Full set of 1980 USA Hockey tickets including the gold medal ceremony ticket.

Mr Know---the SCD Standard Catalog says Topps produced a special run of 100 or so of the Bush cards with the President's iconic Yale pose for his personal use. Some, presumably ones he gave away or that Topps employees held back, have made their way into the hobby. Topps did a similar single run of single Joe Garagiola cards twice, I think in 1976 and 1991. They also did a special Bowie Kuhn single run of thin stock cards in 1969, and in 1984 produced a single run of a Darryl Palmer card as a prop for the movie , the Sluggers wife. It has the regular 1984 front and is numbered 801 on the back ( actor Danny Noonan is pictured)
    Topps Baseball-1948, 1951 to 2017
    Bowman Baseball -1948-1955

This autographed 1998 SLU Doubles is one of my favorite items I got this year, but it is hard to pick just one.

A Caddyshack fan I see. Danny Noonan was the character in the movie (Nnnoonan! Nnnoonan!) played by the actor Michael O'Keefe. Who also portrays Darryl Palmer in The Slugger's Wife.

I'm amazed at how tough this card is. The OPC is super tough, too. I opened two cases of '86 OPC and pulled a couple of Sandberg 9's, but no 10's.

AWESOME Stengal Auto! What a great card.

Side note: Man, I love the early '50s Bowman sets. After I finish my '56 and '57 Topps, I'm going to fill out my '53 Bowman Color. But the '51s and '52s will not be far behind, complete with the "real" Mick rook. Love 'em! Now, the '55 "delivered in TechniColor" TVs? No thanks, for me. That set was Jumping The Shark, like Fonzie on waterskis. Thank God Topps took them out of their misery then image But those '51s thru '53s? Beauties.

    Bumping a fun thread.

I kind of jumped the gun on this thread posting it so early in the year. I'd love to get some updates from board members since this thread started.

    Hey Jeff,

    Great thread here!!

I'm gonna break the rules a bit, but I've got a couple of favorites. The Will Clark wasn't actually a "pickup" per se, but I did "pick it up" through the mail. I'm also a huge Gooden fan, so I posted that one as well. I collect Pro Vision autos and Bo Jackson is my favorite of all time..........

Thanks Jeff - I got it framed with double-sided glass and it looks fantastic - it's in rough shape in places, but for things like this you can't get too picky!

that's an incredibly nice Cobb! Personally I prefer T206's with that much corner wear, just looks better to me.

Anthony, great job with your E91 strips! As fast as some of these appeared in the market, I bet they'll stay in collections for a while and be pretty hard to find!

Probably my best pickup of the year. Yes, it's got an MC qualifier but '71 Topps Greatest Moments is becoming a bit of an obsession for me:

This is probably cheating but I want to show my 2nd favorite pickup of the year. It doesn't pass my Gary Carter Mets jersey but it's close: Gary Carter's first Topps contract, from 1972, he was still under 21 and so his father had to sign for parental consent, I just love this one!

  • Not nearly as big as some of the others out there but as a Jordan collector this was a pretty big deal for me. Always loved this card.

My first (and only for now) Mick picked up at the National is a close second.

Paid under VCP Low for the 52 and the Jordan was a bargain given the subs.
