I realized that I gaffed in choosing my previous card as my favorite pick up of 2012 because the following card was purchased this year and I had thought it was at the end of 2011.
1992 Donruss Elite serial numbered 00035/10000, Frank's jersey number and true needle in a haystack. I wanted this exact card since youth, and to think it was just pulled from a pack in 2012! A great $40 BIN, especially considering I've been offered 12x's that amount for it.
edited to add: Oops, no, I actually goofed this time...it was purchased in December. Ahh, whatever, it's still a great card.
<< <i>This was my "white whale" for a few years. It is by far the most satisfying pickup of '12, and my favorite by a close margin. The best part -- rather than overextending myself on a fairly expensive version of this card in a PSA 7 holder, I was able to get this card with the eye appeal of a NM card for thousands less.
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."
BTW, everyone has gotten awesome stuff so far this year.
Great looking 1959 Yankees lineup card with old Casey's signoff fmclaug11!!!
Shagrotn77, that is definitely the best centered 51 Mays I've ever seen, congrats.
Bobby, how didn't you already have those two Bradshaw's in your collection??? Those 71's must be hard to get in good condition, but at least they are better than their baseball counterparts.

Tony, I had one too. I loved putting my 76 Topps Baseball Cards in that and carrying it around to show everyone. Thanks for sharing that, now I need to get one!!!
BTW, nice mini Yount.

Everyone has put up some really great cards. That 51 Mays centering is out of this world and love the Bradshaw rookie Bobby. Also, the Drysdale and Robby rookies are really sharp. That Drysdale is a sneaky one to get in high grade. Most of the ones I have seen over the years have snow and PD on them. I will try and get some stuff up this weekend.
BIGBEN7, that Stargell is all frickin' kinds of awesome.

Been kinda rough so far this year on the Tony Gonzalez 1/1 department...still up to 86 now. This is likely the best pick up so far this year, with the 2010 Topps Sketch Card next in line.
Gonzo's hand is trying to hide the 1/1.
Collecting PSA graded Steve Young, Marcus Allen, Bret Saberhagen and 1980s Topps Cards. Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.
These are probably the coolest items I picked up this year:

Very cool! What's the story behind it? Would PSA grade something like that?

And BunchOBull - that Thomas Elite is fantastic! And at $40, seems like a robbery.

Not a high grade card although I think it deserved better.

Like this one as #2 because I had one as a kid and this is in mint shape. Got lucky to grab it was not part of my regular searches.
