  • << <i>I think the world of Brandon and very much wish him well. I was going to leave it at that but I think some of the comments about Garland, TX are a bit unfair. I do not live in TX nor have I ever lived there. I have family in North Texas so I know factually that some of the best public schools in the country are in North Texas. Garland is a medium sized city of 60,000 so it's a bit unfair for us as a group to generalize about its schools. Some of the city's schools are very good.

For example, here are some highly rated public schools in Garland:

I feel badly that Brandon's wife did not land a gig at one of these better schools. Anyway, good luck to Brandon and family. Please let's not use this as a thread to bash a town most of us know nothing about. Sure, it has some very bad schools like most cities its size but it has some very good ones too. Let's not make this a bashing thread. >>

    Here is a clue, Below:

Avoid Garland! I have lived here my entire life. I purchased a home in 2005 in South Garland- BIG MISTAKE! Code enforcement doesn't care about my neighborhood and the police SPEED down my street all of the time. My father had a business here for nearly 30 years and had to move it becuse the city council thought it would be a great idea to put in a DAY LABOR CENTER. The city of Garland, TX also has a special Cisneros Pre-K school for children that speak Spanish as a first language (illegal immigrants and anchor babies). The city pays for and maintains the day labor center (also for illegal immigrants). I have friends that are teachers and have been forced to take Spanish classes because the hispanic population of the schools in GISD are overwhelming. Garland caters to illegal residents. You may not experience the grunt of it as I do if you live in North Garland, but it's there. A Fiesta just opened in North Garland. I went to the grand opening and the deli guy spoke very little English. If you are moving to Garland, TX it would behoove you to learn Spanish and speak it fluently.

I copied this from a post from a current resident of Galand. If this nations citizens don't get a handle on this Illegal Alien invasion then we are lost, just as Rome went so goes the U.S. as you have known it.

Spoken like a true, tone-deaf, incompassionate know-it-all. Brandon is a stand-up dealer and a straight shooter, why would he post his story on this board if something "wasn't sitting right"? His situation happens a lot more than you think, at least he has the guts to try to do the right thing for his family. That is better than spending decades of misery working for "the man" thinking there's no way out, when in reality there are multiple ways out, some good, some rough, but in most cases for the better.

Not everyone agrees with your philosophy of being a slave to debt.
There are those out there capable of making sound decisions, hats off to Brandon for being one of them.

My wifes sister teachers middle scool kids for the Fort Worth ISD, she has had 2 vehicles vandalized countless times at school. She has told me some stories that just make you shake your head in disbelief. Yes there are some good schools but i bet you will find more that are not. I grew up in a small town west of fort worth in the 1970's (pop. 612) and still live here but we had been invaded buy families trying to get out of the inner city crap. The only problem is they are bringing with them.

    Anyway, good luck poorguy.

This is one of your 48 contributions to this forum; I pray that I never have to endure number 49.

@poorguy, I hope your transition goes well Brandon and we look forward to your next numismatic venture later this year.

I grew up in a small town. Now live in a fairly large city. So I know the difference, and love what small town living has to offer. To each their own.

What I have found most interesting, while skimming over some of the replies, is how others know what's best for Brandon.

All the best to you and your family. And a tip of the hat for putting them first.

Good Luck Brandon! There are many life decisions that are hard, but upon reflection years later, you wonder why you didn't make them before.

To the naysayers, you have no idea who Brandon is or what he is about. He most certainly does not remember me, but I remember him from some time in Baltimore, he is a class act, take a clue.

Brandon, God bless you. I wish you the very best of good fortune in whatever you decide to engage in until I get to see you on a large bourse floor again. Family always comes first. I have always liked you and thought extremely well of you professionally, but you have grown by leaps and bounds as a man by deciding to take care of your loved ones first and foremost. If there is anything at all that I can ever do for you, please do not hesitate to call or PM. Tom Turissini

Without the benefit of hindsight, these kinds of decisions are always difficult. You seem to have thought it through, and your points make sense. Best of luck.

Good luck, Brandon -- you have obviously given the move a lot of thought and put your family first. I don't understand how anyone can fault that.

I am from a small town in the Midwest and one thing that others have not mentioned is that you and your wife will no doubt bring a lot of positives back to your hometown. Small towns (at least ones where I come from) really suffer from losing many of their best students -- the people that get educations tend not to move back to their hometown.

Look forward to hearing from you again down the road.

    Good Luck Brandon:

To all of those that have experienced the struggles of some of these cities, it is just...sad. What is the point of vandelizing? Is it to be "cool" with your friends? Wouldn't a peaceful walk with friends talking about life, be more fulfilling? In middle school for me, I had my house vandelized, ( I was bullied) because I told the group I was hanging out with, damage to property was just wrong. They laughed. They were no longer my friends, and when high school came along, they continued to turn ugly, but I became popular because the hottest girl in the school liked me, (LOL) and they wanted to be freinds again. But I was playing sports, and they were hanging out in the smoking lounge (nothing wrong with that) but then started doing drugs, robbing neighbors cars... for what? a stereo or a CD? I just don't get it sometimes. "Do unto others as you would do to them". Well, I've failed at this many times, but then felt sick when I thought about what I did, vs. what I should have. Brandon, you have to do the right thing in your heart. We all do. Good Luck...

Wow, lots of replies. You can't help but feel loved!

Respect Mon! (Sorry, I just came back from Jamaica!) Sounds like you're doing the right thing. I'm sure it will all work out for the best. One of the things worth believing in is that there are still good places, and good people in the world, hopefully you end up with both.
