Facebook or Gold?

For me, 'unfriend.' I'll stick with gold. I'll look at FB later this year.

I don't like FB at anywhere near this price now. If I want to speculate on gold now, buying a basket of junior miners would give one a potential bang for their buck so to speak, so that's probably where I would go.

Of course sometimes cheap gets even cheaper.

As a 19 year old who knows facebook, they keep going to timeline and doing silly junk and ads that turn us older kids away, bad investment potential, twitter is whats up

I feel that FB will be very profitable in the short run (very short probably).
But I know nothing about stock market, the only stock I bought was 15 years ago.

I don't see anything that will make Facebook more valuable than it is now. It's time for the next big thing.
Let's try not to get upset.

There are no hamburgers, hot dogs, or Face Book shares in central bank vaults.....other than during lunch breaks. They do however hold a wee bit bit of gold.

Amid all the hype, the market priced Facebook properly. The question remains, can they enhance their revenue streams from the exposure generated by the large number of users. I suspect they will, at least in the near term of 1 - 5 years. Facebook is not going away anytime soon. As to a comparison with gold, you can substitute any stock for the argument and most members who regularly post to this forum will take gold. It is just the bias of the readership and that is descriptive, not a pejorative view of the active members here.

If the market priced FB fairly then why did the underwriters have to keep the price

  • Sorry but if you think FB was priced right at 38.00 YOU NEED TO GET YOUR HEAD OUT OF THE GLUE CAN!!! FB should be around 2-3 bucks at most... KEEP WATCHING .. IT WILL DROP AND DROP AND DROP... So since you think FB was priced right did you bet your house on it?

AOL was a great idea at first. Ebay was a great idea at first. Once they started trying to commercialize every breathing pore of those companies, they started their long tailspins downward. Facebook strikes me as exactly the same phenomenon.

Facebook is just part of the new generations way of communicating.

It has no interest to most of the older generation as they have other interests,

A lot of the younger folk have a lot of time on their hands so

spend more time getting involved by putting all their personal info out there for the world to see.

    Not me!

While I didn't get any FB shares thru the IPO, my broker/custodian was offering shares via a limit order at $38. I presume these were shares that others already owned and were part of the non-IPO offering.

Looking in my charts, I made 10% on FB before selling and that was below $30. I could kick myself, actually.
I keep gold because metal is really my trade since years. Steel, aluminum, tin, copper, iron, etc...

However... I really WISH I had kept the FB shares.
Gold is fine. Diversifying the portfolio does make better cents.

Yes, FB finally pulled up it's pants but it can drop just as fast.

Look at .22 shell. Last year at this time you could buy bricks of 500 rds at $14.00, on sale, $17.00 reg price. How they are on sale for around $30 and the last gun show I went to (last April), they were selling like hotcakes at $70.00. So, a 500% return in one year had you been able to look into the future!!!
