Another submission - Grades in first post

LogPotatoLogPotato Posts: 2,177 ✭✭✭✭
I enjoy submitting my coins for my set and guessing the opinions of our host. I have done it two times before and here is the last of my raw coins I would like to send in. I plan on taking a short hiatus from collecting soon, so I figure one last submission for the year would be fun. I just put these in the mail today, so grades will be more than a month away (economy submission).

1) 1842 Medium Date 50C - picked this coin up in a NGC F15 holder with my eBay bucks. I am amateur at best grading seated coins in lower grades but I'm guessing it will come back as F12
2) 1896 50C - Light colored and I like it, nice detail, my grade VF30
3) 1906-O - Picked this coin up at the Philly Whitman last year. Already have the date and MM, but figured I would throw it in the batch F15, maybe 20
4) 1909-S - nice color, the reverse is amazing. VF20
5) 1911-D - bought this from a fellow Barber collector from this site. Just an amazing coin in hand. VF20

Grades in:

1 1 25196026 6239 1842 50C Medium Date USA VG08
2 1 25196027 6474 1896 50C USA Genuine - VF Details (92 - Cleaned)
3 1 25196028 6506 1906-O 50C USA F15
4 1 25196029 6518 1909-S 50C USA VF20
5 1 25196030 6522 1911-D 50C USA VF20

Here are the pics, I know there isn't reverse pics of the first 4 but oh well. The 11-D is the seller's image.

I would be upset with the 1842 if I didn't buy it for pennies using eBay bucks. I just find the F15 to VG08 a bit weird. Figured they would be a bit closer to each other. image

The 1896 was a bit of a shock. Yeah it's a bit light, but I saw no problems as far as cleaning under my loupe. Maybe I missed something.

The rest were par for the course.

My first thought when I saw the 1896 was cleaned. Maybe it's just the picture but it looks like a pretty harshly cleaned patch around the date.

You know, you very well could be right. I will check that area closer when they arrive.

I wouldn't have guessed the 1896 was cleaned; when I saw that one of them came back genuine, it kind of stood out from the rest. Almost looks like someone took an eraser to the area around the date. Very odd. But they're a nice looking group.
Let's try not to get upset.
