Drove past a coin shop never noticed before and then went back to visit. When he beeped me in, a blanket
of smoke smell came out. The coin folders, books, and everything stunk. I wanted some plastic cases and they smelled.
Glanced at the coin cases and then just left, never to return.
Not even going to think about the condition of any of the coins, since I wouldn't be buying there.

Don't care if he smokes. Maybe thats why there was no one else in the store at lunch time on a weekday.
If you don't get patronage then, its a sign.

As the doctor told my uncle who was a heavy smoker and drinker and was diagnosed with lung cancer; enjoy and make the most of the time that you have left. I quit long ago, but so far have lost both parents, a brother, an uncle and 2 sisters-in-law to lung cancer or COPD/smoking related health issues.

I quit. I can be driving down the road and smell it. I never used to notice the smell when I was a smoker. It's amazing how good the sense of taste and smell are after one quits. Please stop if you are able... and run , if you smell it.

To keep this thread related to Collectors Universe, it's always surprised and dismayed me how many people who work at that company smoke. The percentage of smokers there far outnumber the percentage of smokers in the part of the country where they are located, an area known for its health conscious disposition. Even the ones who you'd expect would never be smokers are, including one certain staffer (who left the company several years ago), who in my opinion wasn't only one of the most attractive people working in the industry but one of the most attractive woman I knew anywhere, was also a smoker. Every time I walk up to the front door of the building I can count on seeing at least four or five employees puffing away in the parking lot.

I tried smoking because other kids did it, but I didn't really like it. I smoked my last cigarette in April 1966.

I offered my daughters a challenge since their parents both smoked. If they avoided peer pressure and stayed drug/smoke free until they were 18, I'd give them a thousand dollars.

My youngest had her hand out on her 18th birthday and even though a divorce ruined our family, that challenge motivated her to stay the course. I tried to sell her some coins I marked up a thousand percent. Smoke came out of her ears. image

Longtime smokers in my family tree ended up having heart surgery....me included. Before the heart pumps your blood throughout your body, it first sends that blood to the lungs to get oxygen.

Here's another; Cows have 4 stomachs to digest grass, humans don't. So if you chew tobacco, expect pancreas cancer.

I started smoking at 15 and quit at 25. Best investment I ever made as I was at two packs a day. My two brother have smoked over a pack a day...for 30 years.

During her tenure at the company I recall at least two separate occasions that she made an effort to quit. On one occasion she quit for a few weeks but couldn't maintain it because she didn't like how she was putting on a few extra pounds (still looked great though). I believe she eventually reached a compromise with herself that she would only smoke half as much as she did before.

  • Smoking is a devious trap these days. Back in the colonial days smoking was less commercial, probably due to higher quality tobacco bred not for "hooking" customers but as a cash crop that grows like a weed. You can see the large wooden buildings around the northeast that were used for storing and drying tobacco.

How many people tried to save money by buying from Indians on a reservation? I see "Bill" from time to time at a coffee shop. He says his late wife tried that gambit to save money. The state of CT got a list of all the Indians' cig. customers and they call them from time to time when they need to raise funds threatening to lien or seize their properties if they don't ante up. Turns out to be one of the most expensive mistake some people have made to get a "bargain".

Then there are the pot heads who somehow think that their chosen "herb" is easier on the system than tobacco... Science has proven otherwise.

I think Tx. gets $1.41 per pack in tax plus the sales tax on the final sale. They will just raise the tax on beer if people quit smoking. I am saving myself money by smoking, i will save at least 10 years worth of income tax to the government, plus my wife will get my life insurance while she is still able to enjoy it. The government should put a WEIGHT SCALE at the supermarket check out line and tax the overweight people

I have never smoked, except when I was very young. My mother smoked and I got a lot of it second hand. It probably explains why I had asthma when I was small which went away as I got older.

In high school I was a “square” because I did not smoke. It was one more thing that made me an outcast. Now a couple of the “hip kids” are dead from it (lung cancer) so perhaps it’s “square” to grow old.

Mr. D. Ludewig from Pittsburg, Pennsylvania probably smoked, or at least his customers did. He sold tobacco, snuff and cigars at 310 and 312 Liberty Street. Mr. Ludewing was also probably in the business of buying and selling copper cents during the war because of the "Copper 20 Pr Ct Premium" notation on the obverse of his token. This nice Civil War token is listed as PA 765 J-1a in Fuld’s store card book, and it is the plate coin from that reference.

Plus it has been said that cigarette companies add addicting substances to tobacco. Considering the cost of a pack of smokes, it seems easier and cheaper to get your fix from the patch.
