I actually enjoy history/public broadcasting channel documentaries that talk about the history of US coins and mints, etc. Recently (last few years) there has been a documentary on the 1933 Saint Gaudens; and before that there was a show on the Dahlonega mint if memory serves. -TEJ
as a kid, she takes a 1950 quarter out of a collection box, and is flipped throughout the movie to predict the outcome of the 50-50 chances in her life.
I'm producing a play in February/March in which several coins fron the teens thru thirties are produced and commented upon briefly.
(Ira Levin's Veronica's Room, a thriller in which attempts are made over the course of the play to convince a young coed to believe that the year is 1935, not 1973.)
I will of course need to use correctly dated coins for this as the theater is small and the audience is right on top of the stage!

The movie Cinderella Man (2005) starring Russell Crowe and Renee Zellweger which is the story of James Braddock a supposedly washed up boxer who came back to become a champion and a inspiration in the 1930's.
It is a great movie depicting very realistic scenes of what the Great Depression really looked like in New York and New Jersey with incredibly graphic scenes of people yanking wooden parts of white picket fencing to throw into their GAS stoves because they could not afford the natural gas utility charges of the day.
The coin scene was also very graphic in which James Braddock ear was bloodied in the ring after he received a stinging blow in that area, and his trainer took a Peace Dollar and pressed it against the ear to ward off a bacterial infection since silver then as now are known for its bacterial fighting properties. (That is known by most except for the FDA!)
The 1987 film "Black Widow" shows not only coins but pages from a coin catalog.
The film is about a woman who learns about coins in order to impress a wealthy man.
The coin is a 5 Franchi silver crown of the Italian province of Lucca, issued by Elisa Bonaparte and Felix Baciocchi, 1805-1814.

Lucy, the Coin Collector original airdate 12/14/1964
When Jerry finds a penny worth fifty cents, Lucy & Viv withdraw 2,000 pennies from the bank, and search through them until they find one worth $16.50. When Lucy drops the penny down a storm drain, they disguise themselves as workmen, and climb their way through the sewer system searching for it.
They use a Redbook with HUGE printing on the cover so it's readable on TV.

Well I saw two TV shows last week with coins, the first one was an old BATMAN where the Joker rigs up the Wholesome Cold Milk vending machine in the Gym at the High School so he can recruite High School kids to do his dirty work and for some reason all the change comes out as Silver Dollars to entice the kids and as a payoff of some kind, Corny as usual
And then I was watching an early Columbo "Murder by the book" with Jack Cassidy as the murderer, but in a few scenes Jack Cassidys Ring is shown and is a 5 dollar Gold Indian, it may have been his personal ring, allthough has no bearing in the plot, just thought it was cool.
The latest, now in theaters movie "Parker" is taken from a character in a series of novels written by Donald Westlake. If they continue with the series maybe one day they will do the "The Rare Coin Score"
I either heard a rumor, or I'm trying to start one...That they are making a high action, intense octane movie staring Arnold Schwarzenegger on the following book...

I have a mental image of Clint Eastwood flipping a silver dollar across the back of his knuckles before a quick draw and shooting an outlaw. Maybe in Fist Full of Dollars?

"The Man with the Bone" - a good episode (their writing has taken a turn for the worse in my eyes recently). Someone at Fox must like coins as they also had an episode about a 1943 bronze cent - "The Man in the Fallout Shelter", worth $100K.
Learn about our world's shared history told through the first millennium of coinage: Colosseo Collection
I was watching a taped episode of NCIS from Christmas 2012. It is the one where Denozo's dad comes for Christmas. There are fake $100 bills, and a visit to BEP. At the BEP office they have a big poster that features a bunch of old coins including a Morgan Dollar.
Current Events It's newsworthy. Only because it ties in with plaid shirts, coin shows and limosines.
Also, this documentary on Generals Lee and Grant in the Civil War has plenty of inferences to battles and one cannot get through it without thinking of a few commemorative coins, if one is numismatically inclined. At the 53:11 mark of the video I see a newspaper headline with the cost of " 3 Cents ". I didn't notice coins, per se. But it's a documentary that sure gets a numismatist thinking.

Would love to see that book some time. I have some prop money that was used in the TV Series "LOST". (Two of my sons were "background actors" on various sets for the series. Below one is seated behind Sawyer on one of the infamous flights as well as standing next to Jack at LAX as Jack learns of his father's misdirected body. The last photo depicts a scene with Jack and John Locke in the foreground and the background having been "green screened" with my son and the other background actors being added in as background to John Locke's and Jack's encounter which was filmed at the studio while the background actors were filmed separately at the Honolulu Airport as the set for LAX. The first photo where my son is seated behind Sawyer on the plane was filmed on an airplane section that was taken to the same sound stage/studio that was used for the filming of the original Hawaii 5-O series.) Edited to add: A photo of the "Hawaii 5-O coin" from the original series that I took at the Portland Money Show is added.
In the movie "Moby Dick" Captain Ahab (Gregory Peck) nails a Spanish Gold Ounce to the mast of the ship Pequod and offers it to the first crew member who spots the cursed white whale..right after he nails the coin to the mast the ship gets stuck for days in a dead calm..the coin is cursed yells one crew member take it down and throw it o'er the side he yells and pay it to the sea as a ransom..they had some nice close up shots of the coin with the Sun reflecting off of it and I winced at the nail head sticking out of it I knew it was just trick photography but it was still hard to look at such a beautiful gold coin that now looked like a bagel.
no idea what it is. from the context of the movie though, it is quite old and may not even exist in known text coinage. maybe someone will recognize it though.

That's a Byzantine follis. (Or supposed to be, anyway.)
Highly cultured people like myself remember an episode of Scooby Doo where the bad guy was running around trying to scare off people so he could get his hands on a rare coin. I believe he was dressed as a mummy. He'd run around in costume saying, "Coin....Coin..."
Another episode of Dennis the Menace (the priceless penny collection). Ater raising havoc all over town trying to collect pennies, he and Mr. Wilson get thrown in jail. After all is cleared up Dennis is gifted with a bag of pennies from the parking meters from all over town. After searching he winds up with 3 1914D Lincoln cents of which he gives one to his little buddy and of course one to good ole Mr. Wilson.

I finally got around to watching this film in July.
It is about a modern-day treasure hunt in Africa for an 1865 Confederate battleship.
The treasure hunters are led to the ship by a "Confederate gold dollar" found in Mali.
The film coin is played by a prop coin of a Confederate $20 coin, apparently more than one design was used.
I put a writeup and some pictures on my website under "Coins in Movies".
