<< <i>Doesn't look like they are going to run out anytime soon. Over 10,000 remaining. >>
But the email says: "a surefire sellout"!
<< <i>They did just start making them again, tulving has them by the 10's of thousands >>
If they really did, people will start selling the "low serial numbers" bars! L@@K!
It seems, from the ads of Apmex and Provident, that they started using letters at the beginning (A in both cases).
The ones I have seen so far were only numbers. At least the silver bars, the 1g Gold have letters as well.
<< <i>JM just restarted production of these bars, and they are from JM >>
They're running a special @ 1.59 over spot; 10,000 or more @ 1.49 over spot. BTW, APMEX's 24-hr special price is also at $1.49 over spot.
Thanks again to the OP for posting this, I rarely look at the mega-inventory websites, so I would've never known this. Thanks sebrown!
Every now and then they have some special sales.

In God We Trust.... all others pay in Gold and Silver!
<< <i>Piecesofme, you should sign up at least for the newsletters of the major dealers.
Every now and then they have some special sales.
MM >>
Every now and then? I swear I am getting almost an email a day from A_mex alone.

True, lately they are pushing more...
<< <i>APMEX thinking silver will go lower. >>
I don't know about that. When the market goes sideways I am sure sales of physical go way down. I'd think these frequent sales are just to help them turn over their inventory faster.
<< <i>Just curious why people are willing to pay the premium being charged for these vs. the buffalo rounds (which happen to be my favorite)? Am I missing something here? Is it the name? Do you get more for them vs. the rounds when you sell them? >>
The answer is the cachet associated with JM and Engelhard.
Although these are new bars many people, myself included, are attracted to the JM brand. Ease of resale may be a factor. On ebay some buyers may assume these new bars are actually older and hence may fork over a premium.

Bingo! Top brand name makes it easier to move whenever that time comes. Nice to get a built in premium on the backside of owning Silver rather than having to hope that Spot goes up to make a buck or two.
Generic=slave to whatever Spot does.
Collectible=always has a built in premium when selling. Look at it as insurance when buying.
Thanks for the post.
For a smaller customer like me, even the shipping is a consideration, and can get those buffalo's at the local coin store for the same price.
I saw the deal early and was thinking, but since silver went up a buck I'm thinking more than buying.
Good info on why they are populate and resell is good. Thanks!

Agreed, But with a huge influx of new bars (that look like the old bars)
the cache...she gonna sink a bit!
Loves me some shiny!

That was 1-day offer from Apmex. Still the price at Goldmart is the best around. (and fair shipping charges)

but i think i saw that no one knows these are just generic bars,
dont waste your $$$ thinking u r getting a premium johnson matthey bar,
they will fool newbies though, they r sunshine mint bars mfg with jm logos,
& yes i saw someone noticed the A serial # thats how u tell the new ones from the no longer made real jm silver bars...
<<Provident Metals is pleased to carry mint fresh Johnson Matthey 1-Ounce Silver Bars. These BRAND NEW Johnson Matthey Bars come to you sealed in plastic and have been newly-manufactured, licensed and released by a third party company, the Sunshine Mint. Purchasing one of these Johnson Matthey Silver Bars proves a savvy investment decision, diversifying your portfolio without breaking the bank.
Each stunning BRAND NEW JM bar contains 1 Troy Ounce of .999 Fine Silver Bullion, the Johnson and Matthey logo (the letters JM alongside two crossed hammers), as well as the bar’s weight, purity and unique serial number. Its reverse repeats the company’s logo in a striking diagonal pattern.
The Sunshine Mint, which has recently undertaken the production of these once-rare Johnson Matthey Silver Bars, is a leading supplier of precious metal and base metal products, serving corporations, financial institutions, governments and small businesses worldwide.
Johnson Matthey is a world renowned international corporation, refining and distributing silver, gold, platinum and other precious metals. Priding itself as a leader in clean, sustainable technologies, the London-based company is one of the world's oldest silver refineries, established by Percival Johnson in 1817. After thirty-four years in business, George Matthey climbed aboard, and the company was called Johnson & Matthey. Over a century later, Johnson and Matthey Silver Bars became incredibly popular, and in the 1970's and 80's demand grew. Soon thereafter, the company discontinued production of the 1-Ounce Silver Bars--leading to their increased rarity--until Sunshine Mint began manufacturing the new version available today.>>
Edited to add: Sunshine also contracts with the US Mint to supply silver blanks for the American Silver Eagle program. Guess ASEs are considered generic silver as well? I understand your point, Rawteam, but Sunshine is a very credible company and these new JM bars are a superb product.
<< <i>How can they do that and get away with it? Did ST buy JM's "logo"? >>
I suspect that they supply Sunshine with the silver to produce & stamp the bars. JM is a major Refiner of Gold & Silver.
