Is it made out of gold or some other metal? Maybe it's the picture but I have to admit I've never seen a coin with that type of look with gold before. Very interesting to say the least.

I'll have to photograph the other side - it is has a ghost image of the reverse - it looks as though it was on a piece of leather or something else with a little give to it when the impression was made.
Goldeneye - I think the die is fresh - a lot of what you are seeing is oxidation - the areas without oxidation show VERY sharp die striations - I think it would be a safe bet that this die had not struck any gold coins when this impression was taken.

It's actually both a Moffat and a Kellogg - I discovered that they used the same dies a while ago.
