2nd St. is great! My buddies and I used to go out down there all the time in our younger days before kids! Last time I was out down there we stopped by Shannon's Bay Shore for a drink and Angels pitcher Jered Weaver was there.
We live only a couple of blocks from 2nd St. My wife can be found walking to the beach every day while I have the glorious luxury of going to work.
Legends is definetly hopping anytime there's a game. My wife loves the little french bakery close to Ocean and 2nd. Shannon's is really chill, but so is the rest of the street. I wish they had some bigger named stores (AND MAYBE A CARD SHOP!!!), but it is a nice local block to hang.
I only ordered a pack of 80 Topps and 2 84 Donruss.
Nothing but duds. Exciting to open because of the possibility of finding the Mattingly or the Henderson which I already own each of but still fun to participate and open.
Thanks so much for organizing. Biggest and best group break yet I think.
Got my stuff and opened most - scans of the better centered/stars to follow -
What I left sealed was beautifully sealed 83T and 85T wax boxes both "from sealed case" Just too pretty to open up! I also left a 75 mini pack sealed that has George Foster showing on back! I think keeping that one sealed is best
The [2] each 80T packs and the 84D packs were so so, but the [2] 82T cellos were loaded Unfortunately as you can see, the Ripken back got gummed
Thanks for putting this together - and thanks to Steve for beautifully packaged cards as always !
Looking for PSA HOF autos, PSA Vintage Red Sox and Pedro Martinez
Two 1975 Topps mini packs didn't yield much star power. Centering was pretty good compared to what to expect for the issue. Here are some of the better cards:
4 1984 Donruss wax packs yielded 2 Tony Gwynn cards:
The best pull out of 2 Topps cellos was Andre Dawson. 2 1980 Topps wax packs yielded a nice George Brett. I also ordered 2 1978 OPC wax packs that I'm going to keep intact.
Thanks, Mark, for putting this together. I look forward to the next one!
Honestly I'm surprised to see all these L.A./Orange County guys checking in on here! That's great! I was under the impression that most of the guys were east coasters here.
<< <i>Westminster? Belmont Shore? Los Alamitos here, got my cards today. Haven't opened any yet though. >>
Does that mean we can get the National to come out here? They can put it in Anaheim Convention Center, Staple Center, LA Convention Center, Long Beach Convention Center, shoot, let's have it in Vegas! Now, that would be sweet! I'm just saying.
Mostly lots of nice commons among my packs. The only star power came from one of my 85 FB packs. It had a Moon, Marino and a Dorsett. The Moon and Marino each had one "white" corner, the Dorsett is pretty nice though.
Our shipment came today. My son is home on school vacation so it's torturing him to look at them but not open them until I get home.
He said the '82 and '83 baseball cello packs we got had no one on the front or back of much note (I think he said Jack Clark was on the back of the '83) so we'll open them for sure. We also got two packs of the 2001 topps traded, and a box of the '84 Topps baseball. He likes the look of the '84 Topps and though he knows there's not much value in there, he's excited about ripping through a box of it. :-)
I'll post later if we get anything of great interest. But considering what we bought... that's doubtful. Will be fun though!
Dwag love that Orr. Looks like it could make a 9 if the surafce is clean. That was the card I was looking for before I decided to not buy packs this time.
Working my way to #1 1979 Topps Hockey I know it's going to be tough!
Keeping everything sealed except for the 85 fb and two of the 82 cellos. Didn't get squat out of the 82 cellos but got a few graded cards out of the FB including a Richard Dent rookie. Also got an Elway but T/B centering is off. Will post a few scans tomorrow.
I received my packs and boxes yesterday. The boxes went in the closet. I pulled a couple decent cards. Most of the 84 Donruss cards look nice. The Ryan and the Rose cards look like they both may grade a 10. James
WOW nice Pujols haul!! By the way, that 1986 Topps Steve Farr isn't a reprint, they inserted real Topps cards into those packs that year. Actually, a reprint would have been worth more. lol
Back in 2009 we did a case break of 2001 Topps and I actually pulled a 1961 Topps Mickey Mantle from a pack! That was a thrill to say the least.

I remember that Jeff... that was a fun break, would love to break another case of those.
83, 84, and 85 wax boxes. I was really impressed with the appearance of the boxes, and for the time being they will be left unopened.
My dad bought 2 84 donruss wax packs; 2 84 topps football cello; and 2 81 topps football wax packs. The donruss yielded a dinged Ripken, the 84 topps cello yielded a dickerson rookie, and we didnt get anything out of the 81 topps football. Oh well, they were still fun to open and something that you dont get to do very often. So it was well worth it. Thanks for organizing the rip. Look forward to the next one!
Here are some of the 81 & 82 Topps Cellos. Think I'll leave em in their skins for now. The 83 and 85 boxes may not be so lucky. Oh and the back of the Kent Hrbek has a Kirk Gibson.
CURRENT PROJECTS IN WORK: To be honest, no direction, but... 1966-69 Topps EX+ 1975 minis NrMt Kelloggs PSA 9 All Topps Heritage-Master Sets
I received my order here today in Canada. I would like to thank BBCE for their usual quick shipping and excellent packaging.
Here is everything I ordered, but I will not be opening any of it at the moment. There were no stars on top or bottom and most of it will go to my unopened collection.
If I decide to open any in the next few days, I will post pictures here.
Thanks for orgainizing this rip..... (or whatever you call it when I don't actually open any of it)
Received my packs and box today. Thank you for organizing this rip. Was a lot of fun. Nothing really big out of the most of the packs. Some nice mint cards in the OPC all way off center though. Did get a Elway rc. Happy about that. Big props to BBCE for a great job packaging and fast shipping. Lets get another group rip going. Mark
MARK AGGSON Collecting Pete Rose Cello Packs Pete Rose Master set ranking #4(Retired)
I knew I'd be screwed on Pujols with the 2001 Topps Traded based on the double whammy and Gold greatness posted above. I had forgotten Josh had a previous baseball life. Wonder if he was on crak in this warm up shot back then ? Ben Sheets made it big right ? Next Clemems he was, did he make it ? And the two reprints:
Not a Hockey guy. All I know is Gretzky back in 1983. Have heard of Potvin so hopefully that is a winner. Else seeking assistance from anyone on the below
The last packs I got, two 1981 Football, come on Montana !
I bought a '78 OPC, 2 81 cellos, 2 82 cellos, 2 83 cellos, and 2 topps traded.
The traded packs are the only ones I've opened so far. Top left corner of every card was beat to hell in both packs.
No stars on the front of any of the cellos. One of the '82's has a George Brett on the back. It's not the regular card, either the all-star or the in-action, not sure. I had Gene Garber on the front of 2 of my 6 cellos!!
The '78 OPC has Fred Lynn on one side and Joe Morgan on the other. I'll leave it sealed, it's by far the coolest pack I received this time around.
Haven't read the whole thread to see if anyone ripped their box of 83 wax from the sealed case, but I'll give a breakdown.
The cards were really crisp. Razor corners for the most part. Also, glad to see that the gum didn't stick or bleed on to the bottom card. So no gum damage at all.
All good so far. Unfortunately, the centering was pretty bad with some tilt cuts thrown in for good measure. To top it off, didn't pull any of the Big 3 RCs. I did pull a nice Ryan and a decent Ripken though.
I'm such a blockhead that I'm trying to assemble a PSA 9-10 set through my own submissions. So I was able to set aside about 50 cards to send in for grading.
I'd assume that the centering is going to be pretty similar throughout the case. Bottom line is I'd advise against ripping.
I've ripped probably 1/2 a dozen 83 wax boxes in the last couple years and the cards from this case were the most crisp of them all. I can definitely see the appeal of a sealed case. If you were to come across a centered case, chances are you'd hit a homerun.

Well, since we've had several days of rain, I went ahead and busted my box of 1984 Topps today. Going through this box was a great reminder to me as to why I don't buy these boxes....even at $38.
Only pulled one Mattingly that may bring an 8. Got a handful of star cards that were the gum cards. I did pull out 6-8 commons and a 2-3 stars that I'll sub in hopes of a 10. Other than that, the centering was absolutely horrible on the first half of the cards in each pack, then after the flip of the cards (after the yellow game piece) the centering was pretty darn good.
It was still fun and beats working!!
Also, my 2001 Topps Traded-only got a Fred McGriff game used bat card and a couple of Chromes. My 1981 Topps FB, and the OPC Hockey packs were complete busts with no stars at all.

How about this one.
Sorry,

The 83, 84, and 85 boxes look sweet and are the reason I bought anything. They will stay sealed!
The 2001 Topps Traded yielded nothing but an OC Jose Reyes rookie. This card is sharp, though, other than the OC.
The 1984 Donruss did yield a Joe Carter, but it is too OC to submit.
The 1983 Cellos did have some great, well centered cards for my raw set. No Gwynn, Sandberg, or Boggs, though.

Will rip the crap out of these Saturday.

Also never a complaint with Bench, or a classic card like a Rose/Carlton combo. I dig that one.
