Pasco County, Florida Oppressive Coin Legislation

  • I would at least have more respect for them if they would set a feasible limit (for instance, all coins valued at more than $250, etc.).

On the need for digital images clearly depicting the secondhand goods which are the subject of the transaction of the secondhand dealer, how does this work with mint sealed items, GSA Sealed $, etc. Also the cards sealed with the $ also include a serial number- those are to be recorded too.

I agree with most everybodys comments on this.

It appears to be a not well thought out knee jerk reaction. Much of the entire Florida scene has really changed dramatically in the last decade or two.

I frequent Pasco and Hernando Counties.

What were once nice clean pleasant areas are increasingly inhabited by creepy looking characters that hang out around a convenience store.

After the real estate crash entire blocks of homes changed from nicely manicured yards and well maintained homes to
    trashy redneck looking.

This law has been passed without voter approval?? If I lived there, I would start a movement to put it up for a vote.... Oppressive laws such as this strangle business while the criminals just do business elsewhere. No law prevents crime.
    Cheers, RickO
  • Seems that there was a meeting called by the Pasco County Sheriff's department, to inform the dealers about all the new reporting and holding, and after hearing a lot of complaints from
all kinds of dealers, the guy running the meeting told the dealers
to just continue what they are doing, and it appears there will
need to be a re-write of the ordinance. We shall see.

I'm in Florida. At our last coin club meeting we were talking about a state-wide law that is supposed to take place on July 1st. Don't know if it was pushed all the way through to become a law or not...we were looking at a draft. The new law will create all kinds of tougher reporting criteria for coin dealers and most anyone who sells antiques without a special license. It really cracks down on anyone selling gold or silver without a license. However, there is a "nebulous" exemption for coin shows. We were trying to figure out whether it applied to our proposed coin show in TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA ON JULY 28th AT THE SENIOR CENTER (ADMISSION IS $1, AND TABLES ARE $25). image No but seriously, the way the law is written, it will shut down all informal exchanges, but it will probably help the legitimate brick and mortar establishments.
