Do you and How do you?

Just bought my first silver bar(old poured type)---dont know if i am using the right terminology and it arrived yesterday and I love it! The back of the silver bar is like 70 black from probably sitting on some kind of paper with sulfur in it. First question is .>> Is it acceptable to clean the old poured silver bar ? Second question if it is...what is the acceptable way of cleaning the back just to remove the black thingy? Just wanted to get your opinion and I thank you in advance. image

I had a black Englehard once. I took a finger nail brush & dial liquid soap to it. Came out nicely toned. Most I leave alone but nothing would have hurt that black bar! LOL!image

It's only bullion so just dip it. Not a big deal.

I like them toned/tarnished. I'd much rather have one that way than brilliant white. And all other things being equal, I'd buy a toned bar over a white bar. Just my $.02.
