Just to make it a harder decision on if you should take off our shrinkwrap or not...........
When we shrinkwrapped the boxes we spot check the boxes by opening the lids on a few. I saw at least one Gwynn staring up at me on the top row of the 1983 Topps baseball cello boxes!!!!
Sorry if I made your day a little bit more difficult!!

That loud crinkling sound you hear is the sounds of a bunch of dudes frantically ripping away at the shrinkwrap.

Nice Steve. Way to torture them. To rip or not to rip, that is the question.

<< <i>According to the Pop report -- 65 '83 cellos have been slabbed, only 3 were graded 10. Anyone submitting? >>
That pop report is very interesting with the high population of Gwynn's compared to Sandberg having less than 1/5th of the subs.
<< <i>Gently Joel, gently. >>
I will try, but it is Friday and with a couple of drinks after the kiddies go to sleep, I may not be able to control myself. I also bought a vending box hoping that it would satiate my desire to rip the cello with reckless abandon.
But - what the! They sent men to the moon and they can't figure a way to cut cardboard "ON" center? >>
Good question - here's a possibility:
Was at a show recently and one guy went on and on about how Topps and the other companies cut cards OC on purpose as part of a marketing gimic to have customers chase that perfectly centered card, essentially boosting sales. This guy might also have a keen awareness of various conspiracy theories in US history, who knows.

Memo to self, don't invite Joel over for drinks and then show him my unopened pack collection.

Ended up with 2 Tony Gwynn, 1 Wade Boggs, 1 nice Ripken, a nice Ryan and a really nice Ozzie Smith and some other star cards. I may send the ones mentioned in to PSA. Will try to get up scans later. Was hoping for the Sandberg but no luck. Nice box glad I was in on this break.

1983 vending. 95% of the cards had corner dings and a lot of them had multiples. But I guess that is the gamble you take with vending. Pulled a Gwynn, 3 Ripkens and a Nolan. All banged up unfortunately.
<< <i>According to the Pop report -- 65 '83 cellos have been slabbed, only 3 were graded 10. Anyone submitting? >>
I'm probably one of the reasons for the skew in numbers I submitted 3 Boggs and got a 10 so I stopped, I'm on 15 submissions and still haven't gotten my Gwynn so I will keep submitting until I hit.
If anyone has non-gradeable commons (like the ones above) they want to part with, drop me a PM. I need to put this set together, and I already have the big RCs.
Got my box today unfortunately the only thing I got close to all-star was Gaylord Perry. Well at least I now have an unopened 83 cello to go with my (2) 83 wax boxes. All is good.
Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.
I was able to get mine delivered to me. Only a Steve Carlton super veteran on front, Nolan Ryan on back but the seal popped, a Cal Ripen back and a Gerorge Brett back. I busted about half the box and only got Boggs RC so far but some nice star power overall.

What I found even cooler was that I had eight packs showing Phillies (or former Phillies) on top or on back:
Top:
Steve Carlton and Bo Diaz on the Phillies Team Card (for my Carlton Pack Collection!)
Gene Garber (Braves) Former Phils Reliever. With Robin Yount on back!
Gene Mauch - Former Phils Manager
Jim Kaat Super Vet - Former Phils Reliever
Manny Trillo Record Breaker
Bob Boone (Angels) Former Phils Catcher
Greg "The Bull" Luzinski White Sox Team Card - Former Phils Left Fielder
Back:
Mike Schmidt!!
