Quick coffee break and I see my big bro has already posted his MJ Fleer! Couldn't let me have the best centered Mike in the family for more than a month huh jerk? Great card, and I thought my 9 centering was nice...that may card may need to 'accidentally' find its way into my 86-87 fleer bgs set...
I'll let you hold it if you buy all drinks in LA next month. after buying that card I can only afford popov vodka in the plastic jug. Besides, you can dunk a basketball with ease; I cant. This is the only way for me to beat you in something basketball related!
This card is a beast to find centered. After years of searching, finally found one that is equal to the best centered 8.5s and superior centering to the one 9 I've seen. Best is that there's no sloping/tilt going l/r.
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."
I was hunting the Ruth in a 5 or 6, but it just NEVER seems to come up for auction. I was worn down on the wait because I love this card, and the lone 6 that surfaced recently did not have centering that would make me comfortable with such an outlay. But for a 4 this Ruth is pretty sweet, esp the top/bottom and in hand the eye appeal is solid. What a picture, love the rumpled hat, the red background...
The Ryan has SO many 9s with bad centering that waiting for one of the few that are dead-on to surface finally wore me down also. Scrutinized this one relative to the other 8.5s and 9s and was very happy with how it stacked up.
Thx. I'm definitely feeling like all things Ruth are trending upwards. It's likely a residual effect of his M101 RC fetching such monster prices; I feel like that card is rubbing off on the other well known issues. Rightfully so, IMO, all his cards should be worth more-- the subject was a giant in the sport, one of the greatest ever. Maybe the biggest name of all.
I like the Goudeys but the US Car just has so much flavor. It's my favorite after the two big ones (Balt News and M101).
The life of the centering addict is not without its speed bumps. For instance, I recently picked up the card pictured in this post. Probstein was selling two copies of this card in PSA 5, and both auctions ended at the exact same time. The other PSA 5 looked pretty clean too. So same seller, same card, same grading company, same grade, no glaring weaknesses on the image or surface in either case. But..... the other one had poor centering.
Mine cost 76% more than the other one. And the saddest part of all might be that I'd do it again.

Got a Koufax RC incoming any minute-- best centering I've ever seen before on this card... Dusting off scanner now!

<< <i>Thanks. Wanted to find a top-end 8, as the 8.5s take a pretty big jump and the 9 is crazy $. >>
That right there is my dream card - absolutely beautiful!
+wow.

One of the toughest I've seen to get centered. Stacks up favorably with every 8 I've laid eyes on-- and some 9s, too!
