I have to give you credit for at least coming forward comma. The hobby certainly needs more young'ns as I was nearly the youngest person at FUN in spite of my grey hair . Having said that though you really need to seriously consider your actions in the future when you commit to something. Regardless of whether or not it's coins, you're going to find that in whatever hobby you dabble in you'll sell something from time to time and encounter seller's remorse. Rather than reneging on a commitment, hopefully you'll realize you just need to use those occasions as a learning experience. We all make mistakes from time to time, but at the end of the day *your* word defines *your* character. It isn't about deflecting responsibility to a dad, uncle, or a friend, but rather following through with what *you* committed to. The fact you're man enough to admit all this publicly leads me to believe you're man enough to understand what I'm getting at.
[EDIT -- The prior poster nailed what I was trying to get at with: 7) Life is all about people. Treat 'em with respect and integrity and you'll have riches far beyond anything money can provide. You'll just have to trust me on that one.]
I had a 21 year old in the shop today who is a novice and rec'd some foreign junk from a friend. He wanted to "get into" the hobby. I traded him a RED BOOK and one of my trusty 5X promotional loupes for some junk foreign silver (about $20 for $20) His phone kept ringing. Finally I asked , "are you a busy guy or what ? " He said, "nah, it's my mom just wanting something from McDonalds".
He was really excited about coming back to the shop. He wants very much to learn a new hobby and he said "I think coin collecting is RAD AS F--K", which kind of shocked me, but having served in the military... well you get used to that kind of talk. I drop that F bomb once in a while, too. He had several tattoos. I told him he could get a lot of cool coins for the cost of them tatts. He said "No S__t". I laughed. You young people are a trip.
An incident like this might drive some people out of the hobby. Don't let it. Lots of peole have done far worse things and have recovered
I do not get the vibe that the OP is in the hobby as much as he is in the business. I would agree that I tend to be patient with immature folks who have a tough time in the hobby. As for immature and irresponsible folks in the business, who needs them?
it takes a man to say they were wrong,, in this world that is very rare for someone to step up and say yes i made the error
we all make errors i have made many in my life but we learn from them and apply them to our lifes, family members tend to get first shot at things cause well they are family

Comma: A couple simple questions for someone who has not read both of these threads in full detail:
1. What coin did you offer on the BST board and at what price? Or, did you ask for offers on it?
2. What price did you ultimately accept for the coin? Did you get many offers? Then, how did you learn that the price you accepted was "too low"? What action did you decide to take about it? If this exact issue happened again what would you do different the next time?

I asked for offers because I did not know the value. I have stated multiple times that that was my mistake, and I have already learned from it. Actually prices and the actual coin don't matter I don't think. And I won't post that information unless casman deems it OK. I don't want anything to be misread. I found out the actual value of the coin from casman afterwards. I did not take the right action, I should have immediately gotten it back fro my dad and sent it to casman. This won't happen again because I will only be selling my own coins and I will only sell at a price that I will not back out on (regardless of what I find out about its value later). I needed a slap in the face that "a deal is a deal" no matter what. I learned that lesson.

Can you explain? I'm not blaming anything on anyone else, but I have said this at least 5 times, I gained NO profit, and wouldn't have in either case. They were both because I was stupid and not realizing the consequences of backing out of a deal on someone else's behalf. I won't be doing that again. And yes, I will have to rebuild that trust. If you and others have never made a mistake, never asked for forgiveness, and never been given a second chance to prove yourselves, then I question if you're human. I am human. Money, if it does not bring you happiness, will at least help you be miserable in comfort.
Comma ... The details .... I think it might be somewhat relevant to the entire situation ... certainly not an excuse at all for your conduct, but perhaps a mitigating circumstance once the details are understood. If you prefer to not discuss the coin in question, that is your decision. My interest in this is only to educate those reading this thread (including myself). This topic is somewhat timely in light of what just transpired with the 25th Anniv. sets. You had a small group of renegers with no integrity who did not do the right thing ... even after they acknowledged their greedy ways. You also had another small group of renegers who later offered some "compromise" to partially do the right thing ... everyone makes a mistake ... would I do business with some or all of these guys again ... possibly ... it would really depend on the circumstances of the reneger and what he/she proposed to make it right. You then had (what I believe to be) the vast majority of people who honored their 25th Anniv. deals regardless of the financial circumstances surrounding their honor.
Whatever coins are involved in your case, you appear to want to make it right here and that is a good thing at least. You are not asking for even a "compromise" ... if I understand it, you want to give Casman the exact deal you had previously reneged on? If so, that is a good thing . And, I especially tip my hat to Casman who let you off the hook in the first place simply to be a nice guy. Casman is a guy I would want to do (more) business with.
