Hell no. I wouldn't trust any third party to hold my gold.

You could have put in any 3rd party name, bank, brokerage, or private vault....the answer still would have been NO.

Didn't MF Global promise segregated storage too? Possession is nine tenths of the law. And you won't have possession.
If Gainsville runs out of vault space I have extra room in my segregated storage vault. I won't even charge the 0.6%.

I wanted to answer "NFW", but that was not an option, so I had to choose "No".

You could replace "Gainesville" with any other name and my answer would be the same.

    no, no, no.

    Did I mention? no.

If I had to choose, I would rather send it to a number of people on these boards - who I've never met before - rather than send it to Gainesville or another big company. NFW.

Besides the obvious already mentioned one has other risks as well. Bullion dealers/brokerages/vaults will be getting increased scrutiny from the FEDs, IRS, HS, etc.
in the coming months and years. Why would you want your stuff kept with theirs when any number of unforseen events could happen? What if your
stuff is sitting in their vault when an "FDR-like" executive order comes out tomorrow? Any heavy-duty tax audit, esp. with negative findings could easily see your
gold held up for months, or even years. At one time in the past I sent some coins to a national dealer that were tied up for months in a money laundering investigation.
I never did get them back, just a check for about 80% of their market value. The firm dissolved during that investigation.

I wonder why 7% of the pollers are unsure?

No, not at all. I would never store my PM's anywhere but within my control... and that is NOT an SDB. Anyplace beyond your reach is liable to be removed from your reach permanently. Of course, proper security is mandatory. Cheers, RickO

Poll results are no indication of Gainesville's reliability as a dealer. It only reflects concern of metals owners' of ANYONE else holding their metal. Any gold stored with anyone else stands to be lost if that firm goes under. While I would not let Gainesville or anyone else hold my physical, I have done business with Gainesville and will continue to do so.

Not just no but (add every expletive known to mankind) NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO.

If only because when I inquired about a purchase I was somewhat rudely told that my military billing zip code was unacceptable and they had no interest in having an active duty military customer. I would understand if their problem was the mailing and their business model would not allow USPS for shipping, which is fine because I have a reshipper and have a non FPO address I can use, BUT it was for BILLING. Not accepting customers BECAUSE they are in the military is an absolute no go for me...which is funny as I've only got a little over a year left and was looking for a new long term source. Oh well, I'm not a big fish, but I'm a consistent fish. Or bird as the case may be.

Too bad their 'customer service' representative couldn't find a polite way to either take an order manually or even just explain the issue.

Did I mention NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO and NO WAY.

  • In light of what has happened to MF global customers amongst other things to leave ANY amount of tangible assets with a company
is not an option for me nor should it be for anyone else!!!
I've got a question for anyone caring to respond, currently I have some stuff locked up in 2 safes but the bulk of my holdings are in 2 large safe deposit boxes at my local bank. How many of you fear losing your holdings kept at a bank in a locked box???

Fear yes, but not as much as I fear having a gun pointed at a loved ones head when told to open my safe. I feel I have better odds of keeping my gold if it's not in my safe.

I have my PM's in three different places. Though, I agree with derryb, a safe is safe only if you and your family are not at home. MM

edited to ask: if you keep your PM at Gainesville, that should mean that they may be forced to disclose the list of their customers, correct? Or there is some sort of law (like in journalism) that allows them to keep it secret?
