“A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly."
Ankur got this one just about perfect. The details are au55 but I am willing to be that the luster is muted form the harsh dip and the color is horrible.
The coin is prooflike and has pretty decent mirrors. This shot is straight on and has likely been dipped but has since retoned. This coin has an ANACS photo certificate and was graded poblem free. I can reshoot if showing the reflectivety if would help in your evaluation. The coin does not have hairlines.

If it has mirrors I would say AU55 then. 76p Trade dollars often come PL and yours almost looks like a proof with the rims and denticals but its rounded letters and softness on the eagles wings say business strike
I would say PR58. Didn't the Proof coins for 1876 have a period after grains rather than a comma? I am certainly not sure about this but it would better explain the super sharp denticles and strike. Hope I am right as value difference would be cool. Regardless, nice coin, JJ. Jim

I'll guess a PF55. Obvious light wear but very well struck. Can't tell if it's been cleaned from those pics but it wouldn't surprise me if it was.

AU-55, cleaned and re-toned. The color is not natural.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
Here is my PCGS AU55 which is the same die pair as Kaz's (note the unpolished die in the letter M in America and the concentric die crack on the Rev) and mine is very PL too.
The Anacs photos show the PL surfaces very well. Maybe it toned some in the holder? Crypto- yours looks very nice and thanks for the pickups on the die pair. I had not noticed the unpolished die around the M. Neat.
The older ANA vinyl(?) pouches, those accelerated tone as well as the later small white slabs? Those later slabs made some lovely purple and blue edges Morgans etc. I recall the original pouches to be "open", no? PL surfaces can retone some odd colors after a dip from I have seen, and not always yellow/brown/gold
That makes 2 of us. I'm not a fan of PL coins that have circulated as they usually look like beat up dogs. This is the third Trade Dollar that has held this spot in my certificte type set.

They were using 50, 53 and 55, but no 58.
