Is this ok to do on eBay?
10 oz silver bar but has $300 shipping.
They only charge you 1% for shipping fees, which would be about $3-4 rather than the apx. 9% fee if shipping was free which would be about $29

He's basically just trolling for some newbies to bid it up so they pay way over market value once his shipping is added.
Are you sure about that? I recently sold some things there and was charged 9% for the ending value and 1% for whatever I charged for shipping.
If you're only getting charged 1% on $300 and 9% on $15, that is far less than doing it the "standard' way. If that's ok to do, I will be listing alot of 1 day auctions
Fair disclosure - I own ebay stock.
<< <i>They only charge you 1% for shipping fees >>
I believe for auctions, there is a 9% fee on the total sale (price+shipping).
Where did you get this information?
By looking at the breakdown of fees for each item sold that I charged shipping on. If I charged $3 for shipping, there was a fee of .03 for shipping fvf.
There are all auction style auctions.
You willingly agreed to Ebay / Paypal terms and conditions when you opened an account. If you think violating those T&Cs to remove a few bucks from their pocket and keep it in yours...
That's why eBay is a totally last resort for me. eBay sucks! They don't need to have 9% fees and then Paypal (which is all the same company) gets another 3%? Gimme a break, nothinjg but corporate greed at its peak.
Ebay does not allow excessive shipping/handling charges and clarifies in their "selling practices" as quoted below:
"Be sure to specify shipping costs and related service charges in your listings. It's against our rules to provide unclear or misleading shipping information or to charge unreasonable fees for shipping and related services.
What you can charge
Actual shipping cost: This is the amount for shipping the item. It should be what you paid the carrier.
Handling cost: This can include the cost of packaging materials and insurance cost, if any.
Delivery Confirmation and extra services: If these options are offered to the buyer, you can only charge what they actually cost. Examples of services include:
Certificate of Mailing
Certified Mail
Collect on Delivery
Delivery Confirmation
Registered Mail
Restricted Delivery
Return Receipt
Signature Confirmation
Special Handling
Tax and government imposed fees: Only applicable federal, state, country, city, Value Added Tax (VAT), or equivalent taxes may be charged."

They pulled my power seller discount for a few months because my number of sales dropped
The numbers are back up now but somehow you always miss the evaluation period and have to wait a month. In fact if you miss 1 month evaluation You lose your discount for 3 months it seems like
Your best bet with bullion on ebay is a buy now fees are 11% up to 50 then 6% after that. Auction is a straight 9% . I think fees are better with auctions up to around $85 then buy now pulls away on the top end. Since they cleverly charge you separate fees for sale and shipping you never get the low rate on shipping.

This is incorrect. Regular FVF is now applied to shipping. I dont know where you got your 1% number from.

Report it to eBay---if it's not OK, they will pull it real quick.

<< <i>I was charged 1% for shipping (for auctions that I charged for shipping) on every item that I sold recently which were all auction style auctions. I don't think I can say it any clearly. >>
Same here....I was also under the impression that FVF include the s&h fee, but it appears that eBay seperates the fees & charges a different % on each.
Per Ebay:
Final value fee
(Based on the total amount of the sale, including the cost of the item, shipping, and any other fees a seller may charge, excluding any sales tax)
9.0% of the item's total cost to buyer with a maximum charge of $100.00.
Loves me some shiny!

Sorry...my math confirms what you posted. You will be assessed a separate s&h fee for the shipping charge, but it will be the same % as your FVF for the auction total.

And this is why they still have an excessive shipping charge policy and include reporting it in "report an item."

fees calc
Enter as starting bid .01
Enter as sell price .01
Enter as shipping $300
FVF = $27
In YOUR scenario in the OP, Rich, you will be charged 9% on your shipping fee of $300. I dont think I could demonstrate this more clearly.
