It is ironic that he alluded to someone paying for a Koby Clemens crayon scribble, which people are actually doing now at minor league ballparks across the country.

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.

Please don't take this question the wrong way, I've been curious about this from the start . . .
If the family is in need, why would the collectibles be let go at 40 to 80% of retail? Why wouldn't these items be auctioned off to maximize profit? Was it purely due to volume?
And also, can it be safe to assume that the entire inventory was picked over? ==> I have 5 cargo vans full of inventory...we already sold around 150K worth the last month and we will be posting around 100 items every night...( in addition to our other consignments )

if everyone wants to give him a free pass, that is fine, but it is an obvious double standard and one i felt was worth calling out.

Hiya Sunee
Let's see if we can sort this out - since I can understand your POV and the apparent double standard.
I totally agree - everyone will attest to not wanting "pure" spam here - it would clog the forum.
However, the offer by Rick - IMO - was SPECIAL - and he wanted to share it here first - and didn't want it potentially buried on the 'other' forum - if I lived nearby - I would've wanted to attend and would definitely have missed it over 'there' - since I almost never go there.
Next - and this is also important - we have members here that contribute immensely to the value of our forum and a "little" spam[leeway] will be given to them - if you want to call that a double standard - or clique? I can't argue with you - it's just the way it is with a close knit community.
Also - and VERY important - Rick aka Probstein - CONTRIBUTES on a regular basis - and often times with a plain ole attaboy - which changes my perception as I would assume with others.
I sure hope this clears it up? Otherwise - there's not much anyone can say - and I guess - perhaps - this is not the forum for you?
This is just my opinion - and I'm not trying to be disrespectful.
Last - and again - for me - very important - the amount of times one posts or their actual post-count is a measure of nothing - the quality of a single post far exceeds the quantity of any set of posts.

And I would add that if someone feels as Sunee does, it would be more effective to PM the person who you feel is not living within the spirit of the intent of this forum and politely/respectfully explain why you are concerned. Knowing Rick (and Mike) they would certainly respond to that kind of concern in a polite and timely manner.
That kind of approach would be a lot better for the forum overall.

Totally agree Dave.
I guess there's times where a public query or comment might be appropriate and sometimes not.
I appreciate the thoughtful responses Mike and 70Topps.
I am just calling a spaid a spaid here. Honestly, I don't see it as my job to inform Probstein via PM that he's violating the rules. That's his job as a responsible forum citizen--not mine. You guys love him to death--that's great. I like consistency on the boards, and when he clearly is spamming, I will continue to call him out.
Mike--thanks for being intellectually honest about the fact that he gets a pass when MANY, MANY others do not.

Spamming is constantly bumping or ttt, which he did NOT do.

It's like a long lost uncle who you haven't seen in 10 years coming into your house and telling you how to run your family, or he doesn't agree with your values. It's like dating someone and after the second time telling them they should color their hair, or cut it, or you don't like their clothes.
I will apoligize Eels for cash or whatever...
It always bothers me, and always will when someone with no relationship to anyone here starts giving their opinions on how things should be. Forget that it's Rick for a second as everyone knows I am a fan, and use him to sell my inventory. Haven't we all heard feedback without a relationship is considered harrassment? Well if not you just did.
That's what it's like when someone who has like 19 posts explains how it should be, or gives an opinion on something personal. I told that to someone else last week. I will own those feelings, but I can't stand it, but I will say how I feel.
Take part of a group break, talk about Josh Hamilton, post your cards, give opinions on up and coming stars, feedback on a oversized Mantle, something other than about rules around here. Nobody cares what you have to say honestly, because you haven't acclimated yourself. Mike and Dave gave you good responses, they are great members here.
So bring some value before you bring your opinions, it's more meaningful once people know what you bring to the table...

At the same time then, how does it become your job to publically call-a-spade-a-spade or be the self-appointed forum policeman? If you feel so strongly that you need to say something, then PM the person directly and work it out behind the scenes. If it is truly someone who is consistently stepping beyond the INTENT of this forum, then most reasonable people who receive a lot of PMs of this nature will self-correct their behavior. If that doesn't curb the problem it then becomes appropriate to contact the forum moderator and request that they deal with it. CU provides these forums and monitors them pretty closely. They can be counted on to keep them basically in-line with their intended purposes.
Every time an individual member starts down the path of trying to publically point out something like this it leaves a bad taste in many forum members' mouths. That's just unnecessary and destructive in the community.
The anonymity provided by the Internet and forums like this give each of us the opportunity to behave in ways that we probably wouldn't if it were a face-to-face situation. With that opportunity comes a responsibility to avoid the urge to publically attack a forum member. If someone comes along who is blatently stepping over the lines you can count on the community to band together and deal with that individual.
And I do agree with Mike. There will always be special situations from time-to-time where this kind of thing will arise. Let's try to be a bit more open-minded and tolerant of them.

Hi again Sunee
When dealing with members here - ya can't "just" call a spade a spade - things aren't black and white...
There's areas of gray all over the place.
There is - for the most part - a form of consistency - as I said - we give everyone a little leeway here and there - we would do it for "you" also.
I can only speak for myself - Rick (Probstein) doesn't get a pass with me - he gets my respect for how he's conducted business with people here and has put his "personal" touch by supporting people and what they collect or have accomplished.
We had a little discussion about this kind of stuff last week - and I have to say - I don't expect anyone to be intimidated by a veteran here - but a little deference would go a long way - they may just have the experience and knowledge to know what they're talking about - even Steve - from the sidelines.

This is just my opinion - and I'm not trying to be disrespectful.
Last - and again - for me - very important - the amount of times one posts or their actual post-count is a measure of nothing - the quality of a single post far exceeds the quantity of any set of posts.
<< <i>
<< <i>ingnorance, huh? lol.
you guys can bash me and call me names all you want. i have nothing against probstein (or you) personally. i stay quiet most times but read a lot on here. if having a lower posting count than you makes me less in your eyes, oh well. life goes on.
the fact remains that probstein started this thread, was selling slots, and it was posted on the sc&m forum where it clearly doesn't belong.
if everyone wants to give him a free pass, that is fine, but it is an obvious double standard and one i felt was worth calling out. >>

+1
And I would add that if someone feels as Sunee does, it would be more effective to PM the person who you feel is not living within the spirit of the intent of this forum and politely/respectfully explain why you are concerned. Knowing Rick (and Mike) they would certainly respond to that kind of concern in a polite and timely manner.
That kind of approach would be a lot better for the forum overall.
Dave
Amen, brother! Well said!

Totally agree Dave.
I guess there's times where a public query or comment might be appropriate and sometimes not.
<< <i>I appreciate the thoughtful responses Mike and 70Topps.

Spamming is constantly bumping or ttt, which he did NOT do.
I asked a follow-up question, wondering what else was left because I was curious.
BTW, I met Probstein at a White Plains show last year and he was an awesome guy to chat with.
Take care, Steve!

If you feel so strongly that you need to say
something, then PM the person directly and work it out behind the scenes. If it is truly someone who is consistently stepping beyond the INTENT of this forum, then most
reasonable people who receive a lot of PMs of this nature will self-correct their behavior. If that doesn't curb the problem it then becomes appropriate to contact the
forum moderator and request that they deal with it. CU provides these forums and monitors them pretty closely. They can be counted on to keep them basically
in-line with their intended purposes.
Every time an individual member starts down the path of trying to publically point out something like this it leaves a bad taste in many forum members' mouths. That's just
unnecessary and destructive in the community.
The anonymity provided by the Internet and forums like this give each of us the opportunity to behave in ways that we probably wouldn't if it were a face-to-face
situation. With that opportunity comes a responsibility to avoid the urge to publically attack a forum member. If someone comes along who is blatently stepping over
the lines you can count on the community to band together and deal with that individual.
And I do agree with Mike. There will always be special situations from time-to-time where this kind of thing will arise. Let's try to be a bit more open-minded and
tolerant of them.

And I agree Dave, and I certainly could have PM'd the 1 a month poster about his post. That is growth I need to work on. Thanks for pointing it out.

If we all went to the PMs and kept everything out of the public eye, we never would have figured out that you were looking to profit nearly $400 per box on group rips.

<< <i>That would be 'spade', back to the sidelines for me. >>
Thank you.

I won't even address the, 'could care less' comment.

Our country was built around double standards. I make more money than my wife for doing the same job. Why? Because I'm smarter and darn it, people like me.
