My good friend in AZ picked this up this morning at a gun show. I think it is pretty cool. It weighs just over 7 oz.

Gotta say, that is really cool. Must not be very big. Love the artwork!

Nice piece... where was the gunshow?? Used to be a woman at the Puyallup, WA gunshow that had a great deal of Asian art in metals and jade.... Cheers, RickO

He lives in Mesa outside of Phoenix. It was a local show he said. So I assume close by. He purchased it from an older dealer/collector that was set-up. It was the only piece like it at this table. He purchased it for spot of the day.

I like my bullion to be as "standardized" as possible, but I must say that that piece is enough to push me into another direction. Hot diggety dog, that is a cool piece!image

Saw a guy selling a large, early Chinese silver tael, maybe 80 or so oz, at a big show for $300 and I passed, it's been about 10 years and I still regret not pulling the trigger. These artifacts have great value other than melt, if for nothing other than conversation and coolness. Very nice piece there ty.

Are you sure it was real? You may have done the right thing. I wouldn't touch something like that from China without an expert that I trusted authenticating it first.

I forwarded the thread to my friend. Here is another shot he sent me

  • Boy oh boy, that sure makes my square bars rather boring!!!!
  • Hhhmmmm, does anyone know what the thumbs up stamp is from? I collect sterling and have seen a lot of stamps (there are literally thousands of them), but I've never seen a thumbs up. Than again, I probably know 2% of all there is to know in the world of sterling/silver craft so I'm not claiming to be an expert. Still it's quite unusual to see such a piece in .999 and not .925,.850, etc. It looks good in the pics, but seeing .999 makes me a bit nervous so I would discretely test it on the inside just to be sure. It looks like it's fairly new so it could certainly be .999.

If any dealers reading this thread have oddball sterling like this, and you're 100% certain it's legit, bring it to the FUN show next month so I can buy it for melt image.
