found this 1942d wheat penny in change looks like ink or something was spilled on the front, but overall a fair find

finding older coins in change is getting harder to do, the usual i finds are the 1960's coins and up but every once in awhile i will find a old coin in change

older coins are usually in fair shape due to being used everyday, sometimes you find some that are in VG to fine, then others AG to Good

but just finding a older coin in change is nice no matter what

Yep... as long as cents continue to circulate, older finds will keep popping up... from time to time.... Cheers, RickO

I've got a 1953, 1941, and 1939 nickel I've gotten as change from the office coke machine in the last year.
  • I know of over 1000 uncirculated wheats that range from 1930 to 58 that are back into circulation because i did it last year just for the hell of it

LMK if anyone finds any of the IHCs I gave out with Halloween candy... mainly AG-Gs but they still had dates...

I believe there are more older coins in circulation from observation - it could have to do with the Coinstar phenomenon and some to do with the economy being in the toilet tank. I find more old stuff these days than I did 20 years ago.

I'll find the occasional wheatback every month or so. The last one was a 44 S in VF @ the Trader Joe's last week. But I haven't received / found a silver coin in well over a year.

My co-worker found a 1920 Mercury dime today in the drawer. Solid vf coin as well.

Agreed. I have gotten wheats repeatedly the past year or two. Used to never see them. Also got a '44-P war nickel last week; haven't ever gotten one of those in change.

I usually find 5-8 silver war nickels a week in my nickel box searches. I have five so far from yesterday and today. That is out of three boxes or $300 in nickels. I have more boxes coming in later in the week. Today I also searched $50 worth of cents and turned up a 1919, 1920 and a 1936 for my earlies, and quite a bit more in the 40s and 50s. In one week back in July I found three Liberty nickels dated 1903, 1905 and 1910. Haven't found any before or since. I do find usually 2-3 Buffalos a week, mostly 1936-7, but also have found a 1925 in VF this last week. Best find aside from the silver today was the '39-S Jefferson in VF.

I found a 1918 Lincoln cent at a car wash about 4 weeks ago.
    I'd rate it an AU.
    Very nice,no distracting marks.
