I think I still have that 49 oz bar picture up on photobucket. If not, I'll go down to the bank and reshoot it.

I agree nuggets can bring 2x spot, especially big ones like yours. However, they are very seldom pure (especially big ones) and are generally don't command 24k spot pricing. I good friend of mine buys gold from the prospectors around here and he has found most big nuggets to be 10k - 18k while the small ones (under a 1/2oz) run 14k to 24k. He said he does pay around 2x the spot price (depending on what the nugget looks like) for its actual gold content. He said if it is pure (24k) and a nice looking nugget like yours, he might even go a little more than 2x spot.

Have you had your tested? It is a looker!

    Thanks Coins101...

I have not had it tested but believe the Gold in the piece to be 18k/24k buy the gold color and in the cavity's of the piece showing crystal growth. Crystal growth is as pure as it gets in mother nature, some pieces form certain locations that are totally Crystalline will bring up to 5x spot if you are lucky enough to be offered one. Now on the out side of the piece there are other associated minerals, quartz, iron and the such as it did not travel far from the mother lode...

Colorado Gold Specimen ( not mine but I can wish )
This delicate, crystallized gold specimen was found in Leadville, Colorado and formed from superheated gold-bearing water. Crystallized gold specimens like this are extremely rare in nature.

Denver Dave.....thats a very impressive nugget indeed! But having dredged and panned for gold here in the midwest for a few years.....as well as study on placer gold.....I can say with almost 100% certainty from your photo that you nugget is not in the 18-24k range. Looks to be closer to 14-18k. Below is a group of placer pickers found by me in a creek in Indiana. Its glacial gold, but pretty chunky for these parts. This is what 18-24k placer gold looks like:

(oh, and add another 4.3 grams to our running total tydye)
