Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
I just finished opening up my gifts from my secret santa and he was WAY too generous. My gifts started with 3 sealed Star Wars packs from the original New Hope movie. Now, I am a huge Star Wars fan but, my wife and son are even bigger fans. They both went CRAZY for these backs. My son begged to open them and my wife said they should stay sealed FOREVER!!! So...we decided to keep 2 sealed and let him open 1...awesome stuff. It was a trip back in time for both my wife and I as we use to collect these cards when they first came out.
The next gift was a PSA 8 Larry Robinson OPC RC. This card was actually the perfect gift for me. It fits perfectly into my collection and was on my very short list of cards to buy in 2012. Great card.
The last item is now the OLDEST card I own...at 100 years old. I knew nothing about this set or this player but, after doing some searching and research I learned a lot about Percy Lesueur who also fits perfectly into my Hall of Fame collection. Truly amazing card and is now proudly displayed in my man cave.
Thanks so much for these wonderfil gifts...one that brought my wife and I back to our childhood...one that was next on my personal list to buy and the last a true treasure of a card that until now I never would have thought to buy but am so glad to have it in my collection were it will stay.
This year I was tipped off about three weeks ago by my secret Santa, Mathew (aka Artist Lost), advising me to put a hold on my registry related purchases. No problem complying with that request, but I didn't think to hold of on my Clemente collection. Last year I was his secret Santa, and it all worked out well, so this year I was looking forward to some vintage hockey knowing I was in good hands...
Well, he blew me away with his generosity this year. Four new cards for my registry and a raw Mike Bossy rookie that looks just about mint to my eyes. Here are the sets he helped me with: Clemente basic set 500 goal set 1000 point club set
It's a bit after midnight and I just drank Santa's milk and chomped on the carrots. Then I placed my kids' presents under the tree. Of course, I used this bit of alone time to open my secret Santa gift. Sorry, too late to scan, but I got some awesome unopened 80s with Mets showing . . . I got a 84 rack with Strawberry showing, 87 fleer cello with Gooden, 86 fleer with Gooden, 86 tops cello with Pete Rose on back (not a Met, but super cool) and 86 tops with Gooden on front.
Thanks Secret Santa and Merry thoughts to the boards!
(Edited because I had too many holiday spirits and had a few typos)
Okay - so today was a wonderful day. Not only is it Christmas Eve - but it also happens to be my Birthday or "Birthmas" as I like to call it. My family and I have a full day tomorrow, so I decided today was a better option to sit down with my Secret Santa gifts. I'm away from my scanner - so I apologize for the crummy iphone photos - but they're the best I could do in terms of documenting.
First off, I must note that I was blown away by the generosity of my Secret Santa. I've got a pretty good idea of who it was, and I can't say I'm at all surprised - as he's a first class human being. Secret Santa - you've made my Birthmas extra special this year!
This package taunted me for a few days - and I have very little willpower when it comes to unopened sports card packages of any type (see PackGeek.com).
This is my first year for the Gift Exchange, so I wasn't quite sure what to expect - but my eyes lit up when I emptied the contents of the USPS box and found, not one - but FIVE individually wrapped gifts and a personalized greeting card. The gifts were wrapped very well and Santa obviously put lots of time and thought into this package.
Package #1 revealed an incredibly cool 6-swatch Memorabilia card featuring one of my all time favorite players - Cal Ripken! I'm not as well-versed on the newer cards, as I would like to be - but this is an absolute beaut!
Package #2 was labeled "A little something for Boxing" - which was music to my ears as I've become a bit of a boxing card fanatic over the past couple of years. To my sheer delight I found a full (factory sealed) set of 1991 Ringlords Boxing cards. This is a star-packed set containing one of Evander Holyfield's first boxing cards. Santa was right on target so far.
Package #3 was a mixed bag of beautiful PSA graded cards. This package contained my other favorite all-time baseball player - George Brett, as well as two other top notch gems.
Package #4 was the biggest package of the group. I opened it with care and found a gift that was downright cruel of Santa to include. A beautiful unopened rack of 1983 topps baseball goodness. The icing on the cake is a Cal Ripken card showing on the back. Now this is a tricky one for me. I have a website dedicated entirely to opening such things. But I have major inner turmoil when it comes to opening packs with starts showing - as I know they're highly collectible these days. The mature collector within me (whom rarely sees the light of day) took hold of the reigns with this item, and has decided to keep it unopened and enjoy it for what it is. Thank you, Santa - for broadening my horizons.
The final package - Package #5 was clearly marked "Open Last". So following my given directions I held off, and made this package my finale - and finale it was. The 1989 UD Griffey Jr rookie was a card I relentlessly chased after as a youngster. And I still consider Griffey Jr. to be a "pure" ballplayer during a controversy-filled period of time for the sport. An Upper Deck Griffey Jr rookie in PSA 10 is honestly a card I never thought I would own - and now I do. This card makes me smile just thinking about it, and even my wife - who only values sports cards in terms of equivalent furniture value (ie. we could buy a new couch if I sold all of the cards in this box) - thought this card was cool.
Thank you, Secret Santa. You added some dynamite items to my personal collection, and more importantly, you helped me revisit my childhood obsession with the UD Griffey Jr rookie.
Merry Christmas everybody and thank you for letting me share!

Thank you secret Santa......I got 3 Aaron items and as a bonus got one card with Ruth and Mays. Also got a pin that I have never owned. Thank you secret Santa and Jim for putting this together. Kirk
Thanks to my Santa... Got a bunch of PSA graded 72 & 73 Red Sox with a 72 Yaz PSA 7. This is funny considering what a piece of crap he was towards we in 1999 at the National in Atlanta. There was a BGS 9.5 w/10 Auto RC of Toivinen (sp) of the Bruins. AWESOME card.
I got a bunch of cool packers cards from my secret santa. I'm in the middle of a move so my scanner isn't out yet. I got some cool game used cards with pieces of chairs from the old milwaukee county stadium and a few modern packers autographs. Ironically, Milwaukee is where I moved.

I'm one of those whose wife doesn't "get" the card thing so she is always hesitant to buy me anything like that for Christmas. As a result, I always look forward to the Secret Santa gift exchange. Santa didn't disappoint this year. My Santa sent:
1964 Topps Giant Mickey Mantle 1971 Topps Thurman Munson Yogi Berra cut autograph Two ticket stubs from the soon to be 14th National Championship season of the greatest team in college football, the Alabama Crimson Tide (one from the Vandy game and one from the Florida game)!
Thanks Santa and Roll Tide!
Don Mattingly, Yogi Berra, Thurman Munson, Brian McCann and Topps Rookie Cup autograph collector www.questfortherookiecup.com
I will post scans later. I got an 8x10 auto of one of my very favorite players (Tony Gwynn) as well as an autographed card and nice jersey card!!! Very thoughtful and perfect gift. I don't have any Gwynn autos!!!! The coolest thing was seeing my boys overwhelmed with the generosity of someone that doesn't even know us. This was my first year to participate and I cannot wait until next year!!!!! Thanks secret Santa!!!!! I'm going to start saving for next year right away. I cannot believe the generosity on these boards and I'm glad to be a small part.
Jbox
Ps. My oldest son is already trying to claim the Gwynn auto!!!! He has a nice collection of autos and has been wanting a Gwynn. Sorry little buddy but this is mine!!!!
Hook'em Santa! My Santa is still a Secret to me...
Here is what was under my tree. Our puppy kept trying to open it up and chewed part of the wrapper on the top right hand corner but thankfully the bubble wrap protected the card!
I don't know anything about A&G cards. Does anyone know about them? Were they inserted in packs? Redemptions? etc...
I can't post scans now, but I received a number of 1961 Topps PSA graded cards. Most of them are 8's, which are now the nicest ones I have in the set. Plus a sweet PSA 7 Dick Groat (#1 in the set) which will now proudly be at the front of the set. Thanks Secret Santa!!!
WOW! What a generous group of guys!! Great stuff. Glad that everyone seems to be happy with their gifts. I was not able to participate this year, but hopefully next year I'll be back in! MERRY CHRISTMAS to all of you!

Very very big thankyou to Nathan, 1980s Collector, my secret santa. He went above and beyond and gave me awesomely appropriate gifts! Hit the nail right on the head!
After my wife handed me my "nerd box" , Started with an 1984 Strawberry (favorite player as kid)Topps on front cello, to go along with a rack i picked up for myself on ebay. (btw i think board members probably bought every single 84 strawberry topps ebay product in the past month, based on this thread. good work!
Next knowing, im a football fan, got 5 awesome 82 racks:
including this beauty which is definitely going in my unopened collection:
some morning rippage ensued and yield a good mix of all pro defensive players, QBs, and WRs
Next, Nathan added some 78 topps wax. ripped one so far and picked up a good Payton and Dorsett appearance!
Finally, I received a second later addition. Again super generous, and now I have some 89 score to start towards my set building if I purchase the box i'm looking. No HOF rookies, but some nice starters
AGAIN, BIG BIG THANKS to Nathan and Jimrad!!!! awesome holiday spirit shown by all and a privilege to be involved in such a positive board and gestures by all!
The generosity on this board is so amazing and my Secret Santa went way above and beyond !! Not only did I get a package, but also my wife. 54topps - Mike sent two packages filled with Christmas cheer.
First my wife, who can't believe she is getting a gift from someone she doesn't know. I started a few sets of old movie cards for my wife over the last couple of years so she could get a little of the feel I get from my cards and it has definitely worked. Well oh my goodness in her package ---- 25 PSA slabs of old movie cards including some awesome upgrades on her 1935 Gallaher Famous Film Scenes set. Included also were some 1955 Barbers Tea which she had never seen and she loves them. Here are a few highlights:
Thank you Mike for being so considerate and bringing my wife into the celebration!
Now I get to open ------ Nice autographed display puck of Luc Robitaille -
Some 1910 C60 Lacrosse cards of which I have never owned. Very cool items
Some more autos:
Rogie Vachon
and me being a Kings fan and Mike a Red Wings fan I think he enjoyed including a couple of Red Wings autos Ted Lindsay and there was also a Mickey Redmond
Next included some unopened packs just to get me half crazy about leaving unopened or ripping
OPC Racks:
And this beauty - 1975 Topps unopened Wax Pack which will remain unopened !! THANK YOU Mike for being an awesome Secret Santa!!!!
Well my Secret Santa was none other than our coordinator Jimrad. Boy did Santa deliver!!!
First present was this beautiful bust of Red Wing GOD Steve Yzerman. This will look fantastic in my man cave.
Next up were these sweet black beauties I needed from the 1971 set im working on.
And the icing on the cake were these 2 beatuies. 1971 Palmer PSA 8 which I needed for my set and The elusive 1971 Topps Riordan PSA 8. This was the LAST card I needed to finish my 1971 Topps basketball set in all PSA 8's and 9's. I've been looking for this card for OVER A YEAR with zero luck. I could not believe my eyes when I opened the last package only to see this card. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU Secret Santa for all the wonderful items.
Thanks to my secret santa. I received two Cal Ripken rack packs (1989 topps and 1986 topps) along with a 1972 Jim Palmer PSA 8 that fits in my 72 Orioles set. Thanks again to my secret santa and to Jim for putting this all together.
Unfortunately, I do not know how to post scans on the board, but I want to thank my Secret Santa. He sent me three Sydney Crosby cards; a Derek Jeter card; a 1997 Leaf reproduction Barry Sanders PSA 10; and last but not least an Evgeni Malkin autograph card!!!
My 11 year old son just purchased a Sydney Crosby autograph card with his remaining birthday money and a few weeks of allowance, and was really hoping to get some XMAS cash to buy a Malkin autograph card.
Well, as you can imagine, the Malkin auto card did not stay in my hands for very long!!!!

Great secret santa gifts as usual guys! My santa didn't disappoint. Lots of cool cards from Detroit area teams, including a nice Kaline auto and jersey cards, etc. Here's just a sample of what I got...
My Santa was awesome! Any one of these gifts would be have been a great gift. I got a 1982 Topps Football cello pack with Walter Payton IA card on top (My favorite Payton card)! Then I got a PSA 10 1976 Crane Walter Payton RC. Then to top it off an autographed card by my all time favorite player Frank Thomas! Thank you Santa and Merry Christmas to all of my board friends, Sorry for the Cell phone pic.
Collect Ozzie Guillen Cards Unique Chicago Cards Wrestling Cards
My Secret Santa, what can I say, he/she gives true meaning to what the holiday is about. I have seen such wonderful people giving such wonderful gifts and sharing what this season is all about. I have seen some amazing gifts and I wanted to share mine. I asked for a 1950 Bowman PSA 7 football card for my set, or Indians and Browns items. Well Santa got me a beautiful Dick Hoerner PSA 7. As im unwrapping the card, I see a few loose 50's cards on top. I lay them aside and admire the Hoerner for a few seconds. Then I grab the loose cards and start scanning them, all of a sudden, looking me in the face was Lance Alworth 1963 Fleer! I was in total shock. I put the card down on the counter and stepped back and said a little prayer. This card means alot to me and will never leave my / jim's collection.
A huge thank you to my Secret Santa, and a huge thank you to Jim also.
Merry Christmas everyone.
What a great gift I recieved, and managed to hold out on opening it until today.
A box of unopened OPC Premier. Ironic that I tried to build this set when these cards were new (unfinished ) . Maybe I'll be able to add to it with this box.
One pack of 1977, one pack of 1980 and two packs of 1981s, all OPC... awesome, thanks Santa.
I probably won't be able to hold out long before I start ripping.
So more pics to come...
edit to add: Not a good pic, I'll do better when I post some cards.
Sorry for the delay in posting but I am away with family this Christmas.
Santa was very generous with his gift selection this year.
So let's see......
1) I received an 82 Topps baseball Rack (hoping for that Cal rookie). 2) A great looking 81 Topps fb wax pack. I know there is some qb on the 49'ers from this year but being a Redskins fan I need a PSA 10 Monk rookie!!! 3) An amazing 84 cello fb pack w/ a Franco Harris IR on the front & a Skins Super Bowl HL card on the back. Sadly it is the loss to the Raiders. Not sure if this is Santa telling me I wasn't as "Good" as i should have been this year. 4) A great card (84 USFL) of "the posse" member Ricky Sanders. Go Skins!!! 5) Last, but ceretainly not least, a 1985 Topps USFL PSA 9 card of another member of "the posse" Gary Clark!! Can you say Touchdown!!!
If I pull a Darrell Green from the 84 pack, a Monk from the 81 and a Cal from the 82 this could be a total home team Rookie bonanza!!!
Anyone know sequencing for the 82 Rack or 84 cello?
I will post scans and update when I return home.
Thanks again Santa for making this a fun Christmas!
And 1 final thank you to Jim for pulling this off.
Hope everyone had a great Holiday and was able to spend some time with the ones you love!!
Just getting back in town from the holidays and catching up on everyone's Secret Santa gifts. All I can say right now, is what an amazing display of generosity being exhibited. It was alot of fun watching Nathan and his twins rip through Muggyman's gift. Merry Christmas everyone.

My SS hooked it up with some unopened wax, Rays autographs and inserts, and some nice autographs of Catfish Hunter, Joe Sewell, Lou Boudreau, Jackie Jensen, and George Kell. Sorry about the bad pic, I had to use my phone.
I thought Christmas was over. Apparently I was mistaken. My Secret Santa (CaptainThreePutt) sent me some really nice 1961 Topps baseball for my Christmas gift. Well, I just got a second package. Apparently, this was part two of the original package. MORE nice 1961's including a PSA 7 Willie Mays MVP and PSA 7 Christy Mathewson. These aren't commons. My 1961 set just got a HUGE upgrade during the Christmas season thanks to Brian. Thanks again so much!!!
I would like to thank my Secret Santa Jeffcbay for numerous hits to my 1967-1978 wantlists, and a number of Orioles team set hits!!! Thanks a bunch!

I could not believe my eyes when I opened the last package only to see this card
Just want to say thanks to Santa for my Items. I asked for Off the Wall obscure items and that's what I got!!!
Thanks again and everybody have a Great Christmas day!!

It appears that Tom Morris had been snorting so much blow while skipping rope it gave him a nosebleed.
Merry XMAS everyone, and thanks to Jimrad, and Happy Birthday to Jimrad.

Merry Christmas everyone.
What a great gift I recieved, and managed to hold out on opening it until today.
A box of unopened OPC Premier. Ironic that I tried to build this set when these cards were new (unfinished
One pack of 1977, one pack of 1980 and two packs of 1981s, all OPC... awesome, thanks Santa.
I probably won't be able to hold out long before I start ripping.
So more pics to come...
edit to add: Not a good pic, I'll do better when I post some cards.
Santa was very generous with his gift selection this year.
So let's see......
1) I received an 82 Topps baseball Rack (hoping for that Cal rookie).
2) A great looking 81 Topps fb wax pack. I know there is some qb on the 49'ers from this year
but being a Redskins fan I need a PSA 10 Monk rookie!!!
3) An amazing 84 cello fb pack w/ a Franco Harris IR on the front & a Skins Super Bowl HL card
on the back. Sadly it is the loss to the Raiders. Not sure if this is Santa telling me I wasn't as
"Good" as i should have been this year.
4) A great card (84 USFL) of "the posse" member Ricky Sanders. Go Skins!!!
5) Last, but ceretainly not least, a 1985 Topps USFL PSA 9 card of another member of "the posse" Gary Clark!!
Can you say Touchdown!!!
If I pull a Darrell Green from the 84 pack, a Monk from the 81 and a Cal from the 82 this could be a total home
team Rookie bonanza!!!

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
