Silver in Slot Machines

Anyone have any idea how much silver is used to manufacture a slot machine?

    Zero in antique slots.

Maybe a bit in the greenboard in modern slots but probably not enough to mess with on
a small scale. On a large scale you have other issues with pollution and complying with
    gov't regs.

Most likely more gold than silver, but nothing to get excited over.

More likely gold on the printed circuit contacts, but not any silver. Silver tarnishes too fast and causes electrical problems. Cheers, RickO

  • I heard a story once of a guy who purchased 10 old slot machines filled with silver coins. But that was just a story. image

Yep, I know the stories too about old silver in old slots.

There is an old drugstore here in Nevada (won't disclose location!) that has the upper floor
as a warehouse and has stored all their old slots there when they were replaced. Now the
silver coin was taken out, I'm sure, but there might be a few just rattling around loose
    inside the boxes.

  • I buy and sell old mechanical slots. The most silver I ever found was $10 face in quarters in one of them.

  • It would be cool to see any old slot machines in a Vegas casino (know it won't happen, but the thought is nice). It would be even better to see some that accepted old silver dollars (I'm presuming those did exist 1960's and before?). I've read that the near reintroduction of the 1964 Peace Dollar was initiated by the casinos. --aap
