I really only have three primary reasons I collect
1. artistic and aesthetic beauty
2. history and social/economic influences of coins/paper
3. once I got started, it got to my OCD
as for #3 ... think "Hi, my name's Todd and I am a coin addict"

2) I like collectibles in general so coins are a natural choice
3) Hopes of having the rare opportunity of aquiring something
extraordinary,and for a song ofcourse. :-D
4) Hopes of maybe finding some really rare coin in change or, in a bank roll.
5) Coins are, money. What more needs to be said.

2. It takes up such little space.
3. I appreciate the artistry, craftsmanship, and the historical aspect.
4. It's a very cost efficient hobby. Much of the money spent becomes a tangible asset.
5. It gives me a reason to have a safe.
6. I always seem to feel better after handling money.
7. A lady with a clean cheek is one woman that is worth the chase.
8. It gives me a great reason to have a database, plan, create lists, take pictures, and keep records.
9. I enjoy the challenge of putting together sets of well matched items gathered from various places.
10. I like the social aspect of going to coin shows and shops, flea markets, banks, and even garage sales to find stuff.

Not sure I'ver reached the numismatic level yet, so I'll stick with Top 10 Reasons to Collect Coins:
1.Following experience with beanie babies, stamps, comics and baseball cards figure I would go with a ‘sure fire’ investment
2.Grandparents left me two Proof Roosevelt dimes and three cleaned Morgans. I would’ve preferred 360 acres in Malibu or controlling interest in Ford, but we play the hand were dealt.
3. The local Star Trek, Majic- The Gathering, and Dungeons and Dragons clubs wouldn’t accept my application.
4. Sunlight Kills
5. I could never see the logic in maintaining cash in the checking account
6. That one time I spent the entire paycheck on a coin, brought it home, and dropped it down the ventilation shaft – I was hooked!
7. Cannot think of a higher calling than ferreting out Chinese counterfeits from the stash
8. The required wardrobe has a low cost entry barrier
9 The hours aren’t bad
10. There just aren’t that many things I am willing to pick out of the gutter

6. The challenge of identifying the specific odors present at any given dealer's bourse table
7. The challenge of not losing my patience while sifting through the 4,000,000 Morgan Dollars and 12,000,000 Statehood Quarters at the local monthly 20-dealer show to find any other numismatically related item
8. The challenge of finding bourse food that doesn't cause diarrhea or acid reflux
9. The challenge of maintaining my sanity while wading through 40,000 Ebay listings of "AU" coins that are actually VGs but whose sellers justify the "AU" classification by bleating the "grading is subjective" mantra
