    Major policy shift by ebay:

Because the 2011 25TH SILVER EAGLE ANNIVERSARY SET is in such high demand, requirements have been put in place for 2011 25TH SILVER EAGLE ANNIVERSARY SET sales. It has been reported that the MINT sold out of these within 5 hours. We understand that some sellers on eBay could have potentially placed their order in time, however we request that these coins are not listed unless they are in the physical possession of the seller. We also suggest the following:

    - The listing needs to include a unique photo of the item or items, and your User ID needs to be clearly shown in the picture (watermarks will not be accepted).

    - To ensure buyer protection, PayPal needs to be the only accepted form of payment.

We understand that you may not have known about these requirements. However, please note that future violations may result in a range of actions, including listing cancellation, limits on account privileges, account suspension, forfeiture of eBay fees on canceled listings, and loss of PowerSeller status.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

    Sincerely,

    eBay Trust & Safety team

100% agree and this is one of the few ebay decisions I applaud!!! If you are gonna flip and sell, then what is wrong with waiting until you have it in-hand (oh yeah...aside from the greed portion)?
Hot items, limited mintage.....too much opportunity of buyer disappointment and problems.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

  • One set went for $600 a few minutes ago. This is crazy.
  • Sorry - lets try that again.

Anyone care to guess EBay's response when most of these are pictures of a sealed box?

None whatsoever as long as you meet the other criteria.

BTW, I won't know, because all of my unopened boxes are going in to be graded by PCGS

They just did the same to me. Complete and utter morons who don't understand the market they serve or give any respect to the reputable sellers who work on their site. I've been on ebay since 1998, have perfect feedback approaching 500 transactions, and the idea that they yanked my listing irks me to no end.

Terribly incompetent morons run ebay. I just vented to some cog corporate person about it, not that it matters.

Since that was started 3 days ago, they really better hope that they were able to get in and confirmed, else they will not have a happy buyer.
Doing a pre-sale, before even having a confirmation number from the USMint, is one of the lamest things to do. Even after the confirmation number it is risky, but before it, on a hot item, is just stupid and greedy.

I understand the OP's and others angst over this policy change; yet, it is important to understand how happy this makes many CU members!

This will drastically influence the aftermarket prices on these sets! This will drastically aid the dealers seeking the sets!

This will affect all of those hoping and waiting for higher prices. This is a huge game changer.

And, it keeps sellers from selling things that they were hoping to actually pay for after they made the sale. Buyers are at risk with sellers who operate that way

    Totally agree.
As a total newbie I bought a presale ATB set last Nov. The seller got far fewer sets than he "Presold" and ending up making all types of excuses, back peddling etc. it was a real mess.
He is a member here but very rare poster, usually lurking on these boards. He posted he would "never try presales again"
I hope he learned his lesson. I know I did.
    Peace.

Mariner67 - sorry to hear that happened to you as a buyer....that is precisely the type of thing I hate to have happen to folks (I have NOT done the presales and have not screwed buyers that way, but I do empathize with those buyers that have had it happen).

For the thread overall....I am not feeling a lot of empathy for those who want to pre-sell and are upset by ebay's new policy change image

Seriously, I know there are some quality sellers here--but pre-sales--especially of sold out items, a month away from even knowing if they secured delivery--do you want someone playing with $2000 of your money for an entire month--where they have the possibility of all of a sudden saying--oops, the mint didnt send--and take their sweet time sending you back your cash--only to resale the sets they just got in at a higher rate--or worse

The worse part, is any scammer can sell as many pictures of the 25th anniversary as they want--so a guy sells 100 sets he never had, never intended to have and just skips away into the night--so, in the best interest, i also think this is a very good idea for Ebay--it protects many more than it ends up hurting-but sellers who will have the sets, you just have to wait a bit. Its not the end of the world.

Although I agree with eBay's decision, it appears that they picked on the OP...1 hr ago there were 80 pre sale listings, but now it's over 120. Sounds like only a select few are being targeted.

I agree. I think it is right for ebay to pull them but if your selecting certain people and not pulling others I do see an issue with that.

Scammers skipping off into the night is not gonna happen if you pay with paypal. Presales are allowed and I use them on common items (like the 2011-W that I am currently selling). Presales are a part of life on ebay as a seller and if you don't use them, you're losing sales, often to repeat customers who just aren't willing to wait once they see the sales ongoing.

I'm not preselling this one but if you got your order in during the first couple of hours I see no risk. As a buyer, your decision is really a futures trading deal. Do you think the price is lower now, or next week, or when they are in hand. Those buying them now obviously think they will go up. Presellers obviously want to take the bird in the hand for fear prices may go down.

If I wanted to buy a presale, i would look for a reputable seller with good feedback and lots of experience. As a seller, if I presold something and then didn't get it, I would buy on the secondary market to fill my sales. I'm sure lots of other dealers here would do the same.
