I'm planning on having TrainNut cherry out the good ones for PCGS at a shot at 70's. My best guess is that the Reverse Proof and the "S" Mint coins (100K mintage) are First Strike eligible at $32 per, and the others (likely big mintage) just go as moderns at $14 per. The plan is to screen the coins and sell of the rest. If the offer F/S on sealed boxes, that's $800 per box - too rich for my blood.

Im keeping mine sealed but plan on reselling when they are selling for a decent amount on the bay(if they do) image
  • I'm either going to buy 2 or 4. I'll keep at least 1 set original and then I need a set of graded 69's to maintain my collection (at least the uncirculated ones). I collect uncircs in MS 69 (NGC) and keep proofs in original packaging.

So I need to get a set graded by somebody because my membership or whatever you want to call it ran out.

Keep them in the sealed box and put them away.

Once you open your box and attempt to cherry pick, only 2 of the 5 coins will be eligible for the 25th anniversary set label and even if you are lucky for a 70 on those 3 already issued coins, they are a "dime a dozen." The only option I see for this set, is to keep them in the unopened Mint shipping box. Catch 22...open & loose value....keep them sealed for grading purposes and have a possible "slew of dogs" that should have been returned to the Mint. You need to ask yourself, "do you feel lucky?" Oh what am I to do? image

If someone doesn't get the grades they want from NGC or PCGS [you get 68 or lower] will you be cracking those out and putting them back into the mint caps and selling them as raw sets?

My guess is that only 2 coins are worthwhile to pay for a special label for - the reverse proof and the "S" mint, as these have mintages limited to 100,000. The common 3 coins are just that - very common coins, that may have a slight pop in value for the 70 holder. I'm not counting on much from a 25th anniversary slab ticket over a regular slab tacket on these - certainly not enough to pay $800 to get a sealed box of 5 sets graded at $32 per coin. So, its "70 or bust!" for us.

I guess being on CU forum the poll is favored to PCGS. I wonder if the results would be same if posted ATS.

I bet the results wouldn't be reversed. NGC not offering ER and not offering bulk grading.
