I freely admit to watching those guys on The Coin Vault and some other coin shows available on DirecTV.
Never bought anything from them though, since they never offered anything I wanted at a good price.

Yea, but Morgans weren't graded en masse by companies like Coin Vault.
Was it 50 individual holders or was it 10 of the 5-coin mega slabs?

the state quarters are very nice, especially in ultra cam. i'm not sure if 1k is a good deal, but congrats!

Uncool.
I don't think Chumley is a fool. He had the money and wanted the items. It was quick and easy.
I do think he could/should return it and save a couple of hundred with other options (I would have contacted ModernCoinMart first to see if they had anything like this and their price), but if he is happy and is able to handle the funding, then he isn't a fool for doing it.

One hundred years from now we will all be dead.
State quarters are not Morgan dollars. They don't have the following of collectors who are willing to pay big bucks for them. I'd say that 100 years from now they will be silver bullion and not much more. The surviving population is through the roof and the number of collectors with an interest in them will have to be in a similar position to make them of value much beyond their melt value.

<< <i>contacted the coin vault and got the order cancelled.....thats why I enjoy it here, you guys are always lookin out for the village idiot thank you >>
hey some people here spend 1k on a single copper coin. when the sh!t hits the fan, i'd rather have 50 silver coins than a single copper one. (and an umbrella, of course).
get the cheaper set on ebay. that's my advice if you still want them.

Will you be purchasing a more reasonably priced set?
The silver State Quarters in Cameo Proof are an attractive set for the most part.
Even the poorer designs look better in silver proof!
My favorite is the Connecticut coin which, aside from being the best overall design in the series, really pops in cameo proof.
At current prices, I don't see the set as a great investment vehicle unless silver goes thru the roof but, as I said, it is an attractive set.
At any rate, you were able to cancel the order, so no harm, no foul.

That was an absolutely classy response Chumley!

a 20% markup dosent seem all that bad, compared to how the rest of the commercial world screwz people over.
Certainly, if you tried to do this today, picking the coins, doing the submissions....it would be a huge PITA.
I dont think you should have canceled the order, but thankfully its not on the Hope Diamond or something unique...and if you really want the nice certified SHQs you should put together the set.
On the other hand, as one poster mentioned, people pay $1000 for a single copper coin. Thats an alternative also!

"Moderns" refers to an era of coinage, not a set bracket of years prior to the present. Kinda like how "modern" history refers to post ~1500 AD (or 1783, 1787, 1789 etc by other historians), and not just a set number of years before present.
Everything that was minted during and after the numismatic collector revolution that occurred post WWII will always be referred to as a modern. It represents a significant shift in survival patterns and collector ideology.

<< <i>Even if you had not nuked the deal, you'd probably have less regret than the tattoos in the photo above will bring someday. >>
Not the same "chumley" (which BTW, isn't even his name) and I seriously doubt that the tat's will cause the TV star any regrets at all. Some folks really love them.

Whenever I find myself tempted by an item on one of the cable coin shows like Coin Vault, I whip out my latest copy of Coin World to see what the real world high end price is and the temptation passes.
I've only seen one set sold by Coin Vault in person (MS69 ASEs) and, price aside, they were nice problem-free coins.
Actually, due to the run-up of silver prices recently, the buyer could actually make a profit selling the set.
He paid about $30 a coin for NGC slabs about 3 years ago when silver was under $20.

What is that picture of in the top right corner of the pawn shop, looks like a portion of currency with a president on it. Kind of interesting---------BigE
<< <i>good that you canceled. if you still want a set look on ebay or post to the BST. if you buy ungraded proof sets like this ebay you get a lot more silver and its only half the price. >>
Seems like your "my ebay" link is dead.
