PSA 9 Graded Cello Pack That Has Yellow Scotch Tape On Back? 1984 Fleer

I just got in the mail from Ebay a 1984 Fleer Baseball cello and on the back of the actual pack there is a piece of yellow aged scotch tape. Anyone ever hear of something like this? What is going on here? The pack was graded a PSA 9 with Mattingly on front. Scans coming tonight. Thanks

<< <i>could this be the pack? >>
Yes, with no scan of the back on the listing. I didn't think I would have to worry about something like this..

Steve doesn't assign the grade to the pack as far as I know it's graded back at PSA. My guess is that this is a mechanical error and an actual mint pack got the grade this pack was supposed to.

I guess the seller told the truth, it really was just taken out of the shrink wrap!

Tim ... you are correct. I asked Steve if there was a significant downgrade for a price tag on a cello and he told me it was his belief that PSA would not give a pack a grade higher than 4 or 5.

Mechanical errors as the result of human error are going to occur from time to time. I wouldn't expect them to be perfect all the time, and I believe they will buy a card/pack back in a case like this to make it right.

<< <i>regardless of the excuse of why it is a 9 holder... That pack and grade is unacceptable!

yes but wouldn't the person putting the labels in the slab think. Hey this has tape on the cello pack but graded a 9? Something must be wrong. Then try to correct it? Unless PSA has monkeys putting the labels/flips in the slab this could have been avoided IMO. Since we are talking about mechanical errors. I get them all the time even when I correctly mark on the submission forum what the card is. You would think if on the submission forum the card is a "Fractal Matrix" no where on the forum was "Fractal Materials" written. Sorry but the QC on labels getting all these mechanical errors is ridiculous IMO! I can understand maybe one error every 5-10 submissions but almost every time I sub!?!? That is not a "time to time" occurrence as you say...

Anyone with any business sense knows that everything is passed down to the consumer when there is money loss or an increase in costs to run a company. You can safely say every time there is a mechanical error. The costs to fix that error is paid for by everyone who pays for the PSA membership.
BTW GAI isn't an option. You did make me laugh with that one...
Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.
<< <i>The seller is actually being really cool about this and we are trying to figure out how the heck that pack could get authenticated and graded. >>
I actually made a sizeable unopened cello purchase from this seller. He was very accomodating, and everything was as advertised. I tend to lean towards what Tim is saying, that a mistake was made, and this is a mechanical error on PSA's part. You don't miss something like that, unless you don't even bother to turn the pack over.
