but I would try to buy them as close to melt as possible.

As OPA mentioned, the Foster bars do indeed carry a premium over melt if sold on ebay but I forgot exactly what premium it will sell for because it has been a while since I looked at a regular ebay auction on a Foster silver bar. I have not seen many of the Foster silver bars on the local level or at coin shows.
There were some Lincoln Mint silver art bars that were minted in the 1970's but those were 1-oz size. That Lincoln Company bar is the first one that I saw since I became a silver art bar collector. Since they are old bars, I would think that those can fetch a decent premium over melt but I am not very sure because I have not seen a past regular auction winning bid for that particular Lincoln Company silver bar. However, I did an ebay search and there is currently a 1970 Lincoln Company bar on ebay for a BIN price of $235.
Here is the link to that ebay auction that I saw:

Here is a ebay BIN auction example that I found for a 3-oz Foster silver art bar:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/FOSTER-3-OZ-999-RARE-SILVER-ART-BAR-DAY-MINES-1969-/160576100713?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item256314d969
Also keep in mind that these are BIN prices. Based on what I have seen in the past, ebay BIN prices on silver art bars tend to be too high most of the time and high ebay BIN prices on silver art bars either 1.) Do not sell at that BIN price or 2.) Will sell very slowly. Since I have not seen a winning bid on a regular ebay auction on this 1970 Lincoln Mint bar, then I do not know what the true worth is.
If you can get them for a close to melt as possible, then go for it. If you are buying them from a local dealer in your area, then that dealer will probably look at it as just .999 generic silver and will price it accordingly.

Thanks for the compliment but I have to be honest with you by saying that I am actually still learning about certain silver art bars. I do not consider myself an expert by any stretch of the imagination. I consider myself a "student" of the silver art bar hobby and I try to learn from other silver art bars collectors who are more knowledgable and more experienced then I am. Looking at the various Archie Kidd silver art bar price guides as a reference have also helped me increase my knowledge base on certain silver art bars. I have been collecting silver art bars for 3 years and I am still learning but it is an enjoyable hobby and my desire to collect the silver art bars that I love runs deep.
