I very much perfer coins but when I see a nice piece of paper I sometimes add it to my collection. Only have 6 notes in my collection, just nice type stuff. It adds to the history and really adds to the type of dealers I can have conversations with and maybe open new doors.

You needed another category: "I have a few pieces of currency that I have picked up, but am a coin collector."

The two almost go hand in hand. If you love coins, currency can't be far behind. I don't collect currency but have purchased a few pieces down through the years and have some I have taken out of circulation. Two items I have always wanted but never bought are a $500 and a $1000 bill. I waited too long and will probably never own them now.

I have a couple of $1 1957 Silver Certificates and a couple of 1970s $2 bills...all of which was given to me but I have never collected currency...I have never bought a single note...but I do have an interest. Maybe one day. I enjoy looking at it. image

I never collected currency, but there is some in my collection, if that makes sense.

I'm primarily a coin collector but if I see a piece of paper currency in circulation that catches my eye, I'll keep it.

We collect coins, however, I am seeking Winona National Bank notes for the collection since it is (currently) our town we live in. So, collector of coins with an intent to have some notes in the collection, but pretty specific.

    What Melvin (Ron) said.

Edited to say sans the $500 & $1000 paper.

Ok, this one surprised me. I always figured every coin collector had a few notes stashed away.

Same here. Never collected paper money but I own a few stray pieces---a Confederate note, a colonial note, a few large size notes, and a few foreign notes. The only note that I actually searched out was a National Gold Bank Note with the array of gold coins depicted on the back since I collect U.S. gold coins and I thought that particular note was really neat. I bought it several years ago and I'm glad I did because this design type is now extremely expensive.

Worry is the interest you pay on a debt you may not owe.

Hey Devious, my roomy at St Olaf was from Winona. Been up to sugarloaf lately?

I dabble in currency when I find is historically interesting. For example I have a type set of U.S. Fractional currency because of my interest in the Civil War. I also have a few pieces of Civil War era privately issued script. I have some American Revolutionary War era Continental Currency. I’ve toyed with the idea of collecting a piece of currency from each of the original 13 colonies, but have never followed through on it completely.

Currency interests me, but not enough to spend a fortune on it.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

I have some domestic and foreign currency which was either given to me or that I purchased at the banks but I've never actively purchased currency for collecting purposes.
I chose option 2 since it's obvious, from my holding, that I collect currency, just not aggresively.

Do $50,000,000,000,000 & $10,000,000,000,000 notes from Zimbabwe count? image
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.
