Does this widget have a death sentence?

image

I hate having a coin attractive at a distance/glance and then you take a detailed image, and you see the green.

Is this coin permanently dead or will a soak remove the green? or can you never tell until you soak, rinse, repeat? or is this something that belongs shoved in a potatoe for a year? image

You never know until you try the soak.

The good news is your not color blind so you CAN see the green image

once the green is gone... if it's pvc... you can tell if it ate into the surface or not.

Looks like it has already been dipped.

It has already been worked on, and it was no better than an MS-61 or 62 before it got the green gunk on it. The coin is worth maybe $5 on a very, very good day.

Acetone in an ultrasonic cleaner should do the trick. This must, however, be done carefully. Put the coin and acetone in a small beaker that then sits in a bath of water in the ultrasonic cleaner.

My problem with this piece is that the red you see reflects that fact that coin has been stripped of its original brown skin IMO. That's why I made the comment about what I think it's worth.

With no intention to offend, the coin looks more pinkish than RD, which is a death sentence for copper. Bet it wouldn't slab. I wouldn't pay $5 for it.

That's what I was going to say, though I'm referring to a coin. Not sure what a widget has to do with your question... image
