9/11 Memorial issues.

I am curious as to how well the September 11th anniversary coins will fare. I ordered my two (one of each) but there doesn't seem to be too much clamoring about them on these boards. Will there be much interest?

I'm struggling with these issues myself.

My biggest problem with them? The medals don't have the date of the event we are memorializing, September 11th, 2001 ... anywhere on the medal.
    What gives?

Anyway, I may still get one from each mint.

I would have interest if I were employed and had some income coming in, gotta eat you know.
Plus the design is sorta bland and generic looking, IMHO.

I'm not a fan of the design or the fact that there is no mention of the date or what it is even about. Very strange!

Maybe that generic design is supposed to reduce costs? For instance they could change the first date from 2001 to 1836 and it's a pretty good memorial of the 175th anniversary of the Battle of the Alamo.

Although there seems to be limited interest on the forum for the medals... I like them & ordered several.
The photo copy of the design is not to shabby ... much better than the drawing.

I'm getting one of each to put right next to my two politically correct BS commems.

I did not get any of these although I think the designs are good. The word Honor is nice but "Hope"? reminds me to much of "hope and change" getting a little tired of that.

a few threads have been started on these.

    many complaints.
    1. medal, not a commemorative
    2. no "9/11" on it
    3. no metal content on it (although it's obviously an ASE planchet from the weight and dimensions)
    4. boring design
    5. doesn't acknowledge DC nor PA

    very cold issue.

From my standpoint, I have no interest in the pieces and I expect that due to the design, lot's of other folks don't have any interest either.
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

They aren't coins, they are medals.

    For me, absolutely no interest.

NO! I'll stick to the originals I got in 2001 with that date on them. They actually came from under the twin towers. Plus I have a medal beside me that was made from metal from the towers dated 2001. Moe sentimental value that I'll never give up. Way too close to my heart. These BS medals are out for greed and have NO meaning other than the almighty dollar! Ray
PS: When I purchsed the original 2001 Silver Eagles, $10 was donated to the victims memorial fund also. MUCH better design. Granted the only mention was the PCGS tag signifying 9/11. But, the eagles WERE actually recovered from "ground zero." Still means a lot to me. had family working across the street when it happened. Wife was supposed to visit them that day, but had a bad feeling and went home to Boston. Who would know?

I worked for a decade at the Trade Center and lost many, many friends, so I was hoping that the mint would choose a design that says something meaningful.

I suppose it does, in "Always Remember" and "Honor Hope". The image is peaceful with Liberty offering up what an eternal light? But it is so PC, and misses in my opinion. Rather bland compared with the potential it had.

Not to put 9/11 or September 11th makes me wonder what the people who decided upon this design were thinking....Really?
    HAPPY COLLECTING!!!

My first thought was that the eagle was looking down at ground zero and smoke
was rising up from the collapsed towers. I know that's not what it is, but that was
my first thought and I could not understand why they would choose that design.

I was looking at these on the mint website yesterday. I can't get over how terrible the design is. There is no linkage to the event the medal is supposed to commemorate. I mean, some of the modern commemoratives are cheesy with how blunt they are in letting you know what they are commemorating. But I am sure the mint could have found some balance between appropriate commemorative and art school project.

Hmm, I wonder if they sent mine via UPS to my PO box. That will mean I won't get it. The tracking they sent is worthless.

UPS just dropped mine off...and I must admit, although most "coin collectors" don't care for the design, the Mint did an outstanding job with the quality control of the medals. Everyone that I looked at, appear to be w/o detectable flaws. Does anyone know what options PCGS has available to get them graded?
