These people make me sick.......just think how many people will fall for this "golden opportunity!"
Ah yes, nothing like a tribute proof. "Point nine nine nine nine gold!!" 14mg sounds like a very low dose prescription for gold!!! image

I've caught this commercial about 3 times now. They've been advertising during msnbc's nightly news commercial break.

I guess the strict limit of 5 is suppose to give the impression that it's rare and valuable? image

This tribute proof has been around a couple years, I believe.
I wouldn't call it a scam, borderline scam, fishing for a dope that doesn't read it through.
They sure do refer to the real deal often in the video, and the price of gold.
What is 14mg of gold worth? 14 mg = 0.014 g of pure gold, 2221 of these would equal
31.1 grams, or one troy oz. of pure gold, costing $22098.95 image

I'm gonna work around the strict limit of 5 by ordering some from relatives out of state. Figure I'll get 20! image

I always say that you can't have too much .999 gold leaf. image

How often does a gold retailer guarantee price for 7 days? They "must" be the good guys!

  • Yes, and coin dealers will have to listen to the gripes of the hicks that try to sell this stuff for a profit later on, only to be told their true worth.

Even being familiar with the real thing, it takes some looking to spot the word copy burried in the braid.

This ad appeared on TV the other night while my wife (not a coin collector) and I were watching a show. I made a derogatory comment and she said.. "But they say it is a copy, and they say how much gold... maybe someone just wants it for a keepsake." After explaining that there would be many duped by the ad, she still insisted that it was clear to her... "so why would anyone buy it thinking it was valuable?"
I tried to tell her that people are easily duped and it happens all the time, but she just could not accept it. Cheers, RickO

No doubt many will get duped, but you have to read the fine print.
I don't know why they even bother with the 14 mg of gold.
Why not not just use gold colored spray paint.?

At spot price 14 mg of gold equates to approximately 69 cents worth.

They do have the word COPY on the coin... but it is located on the Indian braid, so does not stand out in the advertisement.

May be legal, but definitely very deceptive. They open the ad by showing the real deal, and talking about how valuable it now is, and how the Mint had to stop minting them. Then, they go into their special offering..... ......that you can now obtain. No doubt in my mind that many will be thinking it is the real deal.... even though logic dictates otherwise.

14 mg. - if someone doesn't know how to figure that and buys this coin - they deserve what they get

$50 coin for $9.95? - if someone wants to be uneducated and stupid besides, who can stop them from being that?

clad - if someone doesn't know what clad means, maybe they should attempt to find out.

recreates the original .9999 gold coin? no, it doesn't, and the government should start paying attention. They aren't authorized to recreate US coinage, are they? And if it recreates it, it should be made entirely of .9999 gold. I see fraud here.

If AG Holder paid half as much attention to his job as he does to the politics of his boss, he'd have slapped these guys with an injunction about 5 minutes after these ads came out. But he doesn't, and he didn't, and he won't.

This kind of advertisement ultimately leads to buyers getting burned and giving gold yet again some bad press......"hucksters"..."scammers"..."thieves."
Once they've found out they've been burned, they might not ever go back to gold in any form.

Maybe this kind of negative sentiment for gold is a good thing in the eyes of the US AG? The govt would probably prefer that citizens spend their money on fake gold and other
non-bullion collectibles/keepsakes than the real thing. At least this way they aren't bidding up the price of real commodities and critical consumables. The govt is afraid of real
gold and silver in the hands of the people. As long as they consume and contribute to GDP, and do that by not buying real bullion, all is right. Then again, they'd probably prefer
that those buyers of 14 mg of gold buffs put it in TBonds or the Stock Market. But since they had a desire to put it into something gold, they picked the govt's #1 choice (ie fools
    gold)..... image

"Today the National Collector's Mint announces a special limited release of 2852 Morgan Silver Dollars 90-133 years old at $49.00 each. Several prominent national dealers charge from $10 to $20 more for a comparable Morgan Silver Dollar."

    Get your Morgans here!

<<Still in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, these 1904-O Silver Dollars were the last Morgans ever to be struck at the New Orleans Mint. They survived the Great Silver Meltdown of 1918 when 270 million Morgans were melted for their silver content, a step taken by the U.S. Government to finance World War I. Dramatic increases in silver investment have seen silver prices rise 164% in the last year, and almost 30% in one month alone! The remaining Morgans are more valuable than ever because they were struck in over 3/4 ounce of pure silver. And for a limited time, you can save 15% off the regular retail value of $89 each – but only while supplies last. Orders will be filled on a first come, first served basis. Market volatility means pricing cannot be guaranteed, so call today! >>

They don't mention over 1 million of these were included in the Treasury release of the 60's.
1904 O's are still very plentiful in MS today.

Um, any ANA members here? It strikes me odd that ANA would stand for this.

    Congress - not so much.
