Not a coin, but still!

How cool is this item?

That is cool! Amazing pair of collectibles.

But to fit Bear's collection, I think a jelly donut popping out and then squirting jelly would be more appropriate.

    Yes that's pretty cool.

It's interesting that there is no collectibles category for coins on their website (unless I missed it somewhere).

He said 1 sold in 1980 for $1,000,000. Here are TWO of them in what might be considered an original box 31 years later. The estimate is about $2.5 Million. If that's the case then I would call these beautiful things a money pit never to gain in value. Kinda silly. I'd rather spend my money on something that has a "CHANCE" at appreciating. Also, if after a few more demonstrations, what if one of them stops working...who the heck is going to repair something like that? Yikes!

    Ugly and gaudy. image

Edited to add that I thought it was an actual antique flintlock pistol rather a music box. It's actually quite a mechanical marvel.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I know a lot about pistols and if you showed up at the pistol range with that gun, you would be laughed off the range. Reminds me of those pictures of gold and jewel encrusted toilets. It goes beyond gaudy to being rediculous.

That is about the dumbest comment I've read on these forums over the last several weeks. And that's quite a feat considering some of the seateddime threads.
    Congratulations, I guess.

You are quite correct. I went back to the auction and took another more detailed look. I thought it was an actual flint lock pistol rather than a music box. Sorry about that.image

Crap! My work computer has blocked my view of this auction site. Can somebody insert an image of said items for my viewing pleasure?

    Thanks

"Here at Christie's we sold one pistol twenty years ago for $1,000,000"

The auction estimate for a pair (unique) $2,500,000-$5,000,000 image something tells me the auction estimate might be smashed.

To be honest they are beautify crafted and I'm sure they will retain their value but for that price even if I had the money I would pass.

I think after playing with them 4-5 times I would get bored of the bird and just appreciate their beauty, but not enough to justify $5,000,000 + even if I had it to spend.
