    I do not see rub, the contact mark on the cheek will hurt the grade I would guess 61

    Has some areas of rub/wear.
    That spot on the eagle just KILLS me!

    I'll render a guess of AU53.

    AU53-

    There's more activity on that coin than is easily seen, IMO. The hits on the face are pretty severe. Could even be a AU50.

    Too hard to tell from those pictures if there is wear or strike weakness and if there is any luster in the fields. AU55-MS62 is as far as I can narrow it down.

    AU-55 downgraded to AU-50 because of the marks on the cheek. Market grade is AU-50. No one with taste is going pay a premium AU grade price because of the marks on the cheek. There is a rub at the top of the eagle's feathers which takes it out of the Mint State grade.
    Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

    Technically it looks about AU-55 to me. If it received an actual grade with all the fights it looked like it entered, the actual "market" grade is probably lower, maybe 50 or 53.

    These are tough, and PCGS graders are tough on them. If I had not seen the grade already posted, I would have gone with a higher grade, maybe even MS61. I definitely need to keep learning on these.

    It doesn't help that there are so many counterfeits. I always save the receipts on quarter eagles bought raw, and only buy them from vendors whom I know will take them back if they get rejected as not authentic. I don't buy them raw at coin shows. Even the mosth honest of dealers will unknowingly sell counterfeits; the reputable ones insist on having them brought back for refunds.

    Looks like it would be a 55 if the reeding marks weren't on the Indian's face which is a prime focal area. The marks are serious enough to knock it down to a 50 but not serious enough to keep it from being graded.

    Amazing how so many members were either spot on or very close to the grade of this difficult to grade series. Good work.
