My wide date 1802 B-5, BB-242, R5 bust dollar.....a WOW coin!

1802 $1 Wide Date AU55 NGC. CAC. B-5, BB-242, R.5.

Along with B-9, B-5 is the rarest business strike 1802 dollar.

Aside from the uncollectible novodel proof, B-5 is the most valuable variety of the date. This is because it receives its own Guide Book listing, as the 'Wide Normal Date.'

B-2, B-3, and B-9 also have wide dates, but those three marriages are 1802/1 overdates.

Rich golden-brown, olive-green, dove-gray, and powder-blue toning embraces this well defined and partly lustrous Choice AU dollar. The surfaces are smooth aside from faint marks on the right obverse field. Neither major grading service has certified an Uncirculated example, which clarifies the importance of the present piece.
Census: 2 in 55, 0 finer (11/08).

Ex: Auction '86 (RARCOA, 7/1986), lot 736.
From The Deb-Ann Collection....now resides in the Bidask collection image

Just to add that PCGS has slabbed an AU-58 example which can be seen in the Hesselgesser collection: link

A sticker on a Bust $ means something. I assume the obverse scratches are on the holder. That's a nice coin. How many years were you looking for it? I spent 8 years looking for my narrow date in a PC 53 holder with a sticker.

El Contador, I saw this coin, Lot 3949 of Heritage FUN auction 2009, and the slab did not describe it as a wide date ( although the cataloger did note) so I think I bought it cheap.

Wow, beautiful coin. I have been waiting four years to find one. Stone, from our forum, gave me a heads up on a whizzed one in a NGC details holder. I won it at the Heritage signature auction this weekend. Now I need to get it in a PCGS genuine holder. I have most of the early dollar varities in my dollar registry set, but the one you have has eluded me for many years. You have a truly great find there, enjoy. I wonder if they are from the same collection? 1802 wide dates simply do not show up much, let alone at the same time.
