    You watch too much TV.

"I'm going to drive to Plano to get my cards back" does not equal "I'm going to arm myself and hold 4 dudes hostage in a Vegas hotel room under the threat of being shot so I can take back signed sports memorabilia that was originally mine, and by the way, 95% of the country believes I killed my ex-wife."

Unless there is a court order stating otherwise, it is perfectly legal to knock on someone's door who owes you money or property and ask for it back.

Yes of course no threats of physical violence, or it could be you who winds up in trouble. However, a threat such as "I will sue you in small claims court" is perfectly legal.

I hope Bob (bking) is OK.

There is a card shop in Plano called Triple K Cards that I believe that bking has mentioned frequenting in the past. I believe the owner of Triple K is named Al. You can find Triple L's number on the internet. If something has happened to Bking, and he was a good customer of the card shop, perhaps the card shop might know. Then again, they might not tell you if they do or not, as he would be there client, and not you. However, it might be worth a call of inquiry.

I, too, hope that bking is ok, and that a reasonable exlanation is provided in the future. I only live about 50 miles from Plano, and for the past couple of weeks, in this area, we've been getting absolutely blasted with storms, straight line winds and tornados. I had damage myself to my home and property, and my office, so bking may be dealing with stuff a heckuva lot more important than trading cards, or maybe not, who knows at this point.

Here's my account of the scenario. I only had one card in the reholder sub and it was just a common from my registry set that was cracked open. I did receive mine in the mail after getting an email as quoted in the post below. Bob said in his email that he would upgrade the postage to Priority Mail at his expense since he had delayed for so long. I emailed him back and told him he could just send mine first class and save on postage as I had no hurry to get the card back. After that, my package arrived with a postage due label attached.....

With that said, at least I got mine back.

I sent three cards, approximately $500 in total value. The most valuable of the three was a '62 Clemente PSA 8. I had two problem-free transactions with Bob prior to the reholder sub- one as a buyer and one as a seller.

Bob sent an e-mail to most of the people participating in the sub on April 15th. As far as I know, that e-mail has been the last communication from Bob to anyone. He informed us that the family emergency had been the reason for the delay, and he was going to send our cards out on April 16th, priority mail.

I received my cards on April 22, in a priority mail small flat rate box. I know that Tom (KeepItWarm) received his cards on the same day. Shortly thereafter a third member of the sub- I think it was Rodney (ga5150)- got his as well.
Why we got our cards and the others did not, I don't even have a guess. >>

Man, that is dirty pool. I agree with everyone that says to sub your own cards and not trust anyone else. Putting that aside, just a dirtbag move by stealing someone's cardboard.

I want to make it perfectly clear that I AM NOT threatening to cause harm to anyone but yes I am going to call the police in Plano and find out if they will assist msassin, hammered, and I. I will also contact the USPS and seek their assistance. I did not receive a response to my phone message that I left on the answering machine yesterday so I will keep calling and calling and calling!

I FINALLY received my cards today. There has still been no contact & there was no note or explanation in the package. I want to thank everyone for their support on the board for myself, msassin, hammered in getting our cards back. The package was postmarked April 27th so I am sure all of the posts on the original reholder sub might have got him in gear to either to go to the post office & mail my cards or prompted him to make the decision that keeping my cards was not a good idea. I commented on an earlier post that I love this board. It along with cardboard is good therapy for me. I have bought, sold, and traded with a lot of good people. I have had several guys help me out in one way or another and I try to do the same whenever I can. I have no hesitation in piggybacking again but I will probably not send a card of sentimental and money value like the 1966 Mantle out of my birth year PSA registry set. I know that I am a 110% honest guy and I know the majority of people on this board are also. I don't know what BKING's problem was. I don't know if he was planning on keeping my cards or just flaked out and that caused him to not answer an email or send me a PM for 30 days. I am just thankful to have my cards back and for the good friends I have on this board. Thanks again to everyone who sent nice PM's and commented cordially on this board. Sincerely, Dean Adkins

Hi Dean - sure glad you guys got your cards back.

Perhaps the guy procrastinated - on top of some kind of "incident" - and was just embarrassed to answer?

It's always nice to give people the benefit of the doubt - but to be honest - a plain ole note of apology would be nice at this point.

But, still - glad this is over with a happy ending.

I don't care what the situation is. I am an understanding person and I can appreciate that someone might have family problems or an emergency but with that said if I take on the responsibility to assist someone in a group reholder or piggyback then I have an obligation to make some form of contact and let them know I am having difficulties. A month with ZERO contact is not even close to acceptable. You can at least send an email or a PM to a person and give them an update. I might have to go to a library and get on a computer and make a post. I can call a friend and ask them to make a general post to serve as an update. In one word this entire fiasco is UNACCEPTABLE. I don't have that much hair left on my head and now I think I have even less imageimageimage

bking, glad to see your family emergency seems to have subsided and you were able to get those cards out to their owners.

But guess what? Regardless of the seriousness or your family crisis, you had a fiduciary responsibility to those fellow CU members who entrusted you with their "labors of love"; ...cards from their collections. When you volunteered to take on this responsibility of spearheading a group PSA sub on these threads, ...well you know by now what was the "right thing to do".

    YOU DIDN'T DO IT!

BTW bking, when are you doing your next group sub? image

Two days BEFORE this thread was started.

As the OP said, perhaps there was something in another thread that prompted it, perhaps Bob was preoccupied, perhaps he was just lazy.

Personally, anyone that decides to participate in a group sub assumes a certain level of risk and will not get any sympathy from me if things go south. Even more so when they go about posting personal information without exhausting all other avenues.

It is very easy to point a finger, level accusations, suggest criminal intent and smear another on these boards. But it is rare to see anyone attempt to correct these things after the fact. And in most cases, the horse is already out of the barn.

Pitch forks and torches seem to be the primary weapons, here. By all means, carry on . . .

I really hope we get an explanation from Bking on this situation. It wont change what happened, but it may help everyone involved to better understand why!
  • tigerdeantigerdean Posts: 910 ✭✭✭
Bottom line is, this guy needed to be exposed as an irresponsible facilitator for handling other peoples cards. I wanted to alert my fellow board members so they never get involved with this guy. I didn't post anything more than what can easily be found through the internet as public information. The moral is if you don't want your information published on this board then get an unlisted phone number, remove yourself from any public database you can, and DO NOT agree to handle other peoples property without making contact for over 30 days in any way whatsoever. I have no problem piggybacking again or participating in a reholder sub with fellow board members because there A LOT of great people here but I will say that I will be a little more choosy next time.
  • to quote the bestest movie ever.. Monty Python and the Holy Grail: "BURRRRRRRRRN HER ANYWAY !!!!"

  • Bking can you please provide an explanation. Stuff happens, but don't leave everyone hanging.

Did the tornado's hit his area? Just wondering... I hope he and his family are okay. If it was just laziness that is just not acceptable. Anything other than a family emergency, a serious one makes this process unacceptable, period.

    Glad the ending was good.

For anyone to suggest that Dean was wrong in how he was handling this situation is just plain wrong. Could he have handled it differently...yes. I would have been pissed. I hope Michael gets his cards back. Why there has been absolutely no communication whatsoever in a long time is just bizarre. One goes to the post office at different times to mail packages...some get there cards and some do not. The ones who did not get there cards received almost no communication at all. I do want to make myself clear on one thing...that above and beyond cards I hope that Bob and his family are okay and did not have some sort of disaster. Some people act differently to emergencies than others. I don't know if I would be on the computer looking at cards if I just lost an immediate family member or my house was taken away in a tornado. What I probably would do...is after a week give a close trusted friend my login and have him take care of business such as this for me. Lots of variables in this situation and I hope Bob can work this out with the board members.

    Bottom line is:

    If you piggyback --

Trust the person you're sending them to and accept that you may never get the cards back.

I've sent many cards to trusted members on this board and to be honest -- if the member told me something happened and things went wrong -- oh freaking well/things happen -- THANK YOU for at least allowing me to piggyback on your order!

If the card is sentimental and you ship it to someone to sub for you -- ask yourself how sentimental is the card really?

You may say that's the way you would feel in theory, but if someone lost your cards, you would most likely be singing a different tune. And it would not be an upbeat one.

MULLINS5 seems to say that he wouldn't put himself in such a vulnerable position - and if he did, he would accept the outcome regardless cause he knew what he was getting himself into. >>

The way I do it is: if I have cards I don't really care about... they're sitting around collecting dust... and someone is doing a piggyback -- I'll participate.

If I have a card that means a lot to me or is worth a substantial amount of money -- I'll sub it myself. I'd much rather chew out the post office than a trusted board member.

I learned a good lesson. I know guys on this board that I trust wholeheartedly and I will just wait for them to sub from now on. I just rarely have anything to send in so I appreciate getting to piggyback but I also appreciate a little courtesy and responsibility. Do I feel bad about how I handled things, absolutely not. Maybe he was just waiting to see if we would go away so he could keep our high dollar cards. I work too hard for my money and I am honest. I would have made a nice drive to Plano, TX if that is what it came to & I would have had the biggest ribeye I could have found in the process. Thanks again to all the guys who gave their support!! Got the reholdered card today in my PO box, figured I would since others had received their cards last couple days.

Michael, I am confident you will receive your cards since I got mine Saturday. I received an email from Mr. King today and I am glad he had the stones to send an apology but there is no excuse for over 30 days with no contact or update. Here is the content of his email and my response.

    Dean,

Terribly sorry for going AWOL, but this has been a horrible stretch of time for me, and keeping up non-critical commitments has been (and still is) a major chore. No excuses for not keeping everyong informed, but it just hasn't been practical most of the time. Sorry to make you wait & worry due to my issues.

Your cards were finally mailed last week DC#, and show delivered on 4/30.

    Bob

    And my response:

Bob, Thanks for helping me but I think you caused me to lose more hair and I can't afford to do that. I'm just glad to have my cards back. I'm sorry you have such a stressful life! Dean
