I sold 100 silver eagles in the past week myself. Take a profit at this point and wait it out. If I am wrong I still have a few hundred more.

I suspended my sales about 10 days ago, after disposing of several hundred oz of silver bullion bars & rounds over the course of about 1 1/2 month. Plan on resuming after the dust clears a little bid. I'm still buying certain Silver Art Bars though. Just finished purchasing a set of 4 JM 1 oz Art Bars Bars with a Space theme (Apollo, Moonwalk, Shuttle & Skylab)

I did my selling last week also getting rid of junk. Then the next day while continuing the dig through the storage I find a little hoard of 1992-93 Mexican bi-metallic 20 and 50 Pesos. In 96 or so illegals were pouring off the bus by the dozens everyday. I had no problem doing a little money exchange ' monedas con dos medallas para dólares' (I knew it then, used a translator for that line today) which basically says 'coins with two medals for dollars'. Desperate times, and hard working people they were, well some were really scary. Ever had that feeling that the person next to you has killed for fun? I had it plenty that week. Anyways, I Spent $20 and cashed that in today for 140. Kept one 20 Peso for the memory.

When asked about silver Dines stated, “I think it’s going way higher, this metal (silver) is the most overlooked, underpriced, undervalued, under-appreciated commodity in the world in my opinion...It’s going to go well over $100.”
  • I was too lazy to sell any of mine so I guess I am stuck with my gold and silver for a few years. When the price rises again I guess I will sell. If the price doesn't rise my wife said she will take it for her jewelry collection. I know if bear sold all his silver that the price will now drop below $6.00 again. (ALL IS LOST)

  • mikeygmikeyg Posts: 1,002

Up down sideways??? who knows. While I have a few rolls of SAEs bought around $22.What I am doing now is collecting silver ounce coins from around the world.Pandas....silver wolves....silver grizzly bears...libertads....etc.When I can get a good price I will be out there buying. image
  • I did sell some silver art bars on various days during this year. I sold most of my common minted '70's silver art bars (ex: Hamilton Mint, Madison Mint, Mother-Lode Mint, etc.) to a local dealer for a paper profit. I ended up spending that paper profit on buying some GreatHouse Productions 1-oz silver art bars, Green Country Mint 1-oz silver art bars, and The Mint 1-oz silver art bars that were on my silver art bar wish list.

DISCLAIMER: I am NOT a '70's silver art bar expert but I try my best to play one on the Internet.

Everyone has different considerations, and Bear may have hit an intermediate high - so bravo, Bear! By the same token, I have yet to see any good reasons for thinking that keeping savings in a dollar-denominated asset will do any better than precious metals.

No one went broke taking a profit.

True enough. One could have cashed out in silver in spring of 1979 after doubling or tripling up. Unfortunately it went up another 10X in the following year.

The real key is will one buy back that insurance on the next dip? If so, then no problem as you will end up with more ounces the next time around.
If not, then other for required expenses and home cash flow, I can't imagine selling off the insurance policy. I stupidly sold off some silver in the low $20's.
I have not replaced that yet nor will it likely ever happen unless silver gets below $20 again.

In answer to the question of why the bear sold out his silver and So Called Dollar collection, is that the bear

has been diagnosed with incurable cancer. Life has a way of changing goals and ones perspective on things.

all I can say, is that every day one can awaken to see a sunrise, is a very good day indeed. One must accept

life as it is, with the good and the not so good. Enjoy every minute as if it were your last and be thankful for

the time allotted to live ones life.

I would like to say a special thank you to Jeremy Katz, who has known of my condition for some time and and has graciously

been assisting me in liquidating my collection in a most professional and compassionate manner.

I am sorry to hear the news, Bear. I would like to add that I have had the pleasure of meeting the great Bear in person and seeing some of his so-called dollar collection.

The doctor is giving an opinion. It is an expert opinion, but it does not always turn out the way the doc says it will. Sometimes miracles occur and a person beats the odds and has many more years. A friend of mine just celebrated seven years in remission, from his "death sentence." In his case, the docs told him the cancer had spread throughout his body and he had about six months and it was time to get his affairs in order, there was nothing more they could do for him.
