These forums are NOT a "democracy" , and I am in line with how PCGS stands on this!

I don't really care if this post goes poof. I just wanted to see how others feel about this.

I know I am not the only one against this crap!!!

This NOT a post about the Carr dollar. This is a post how they shouldn't even be allowed and have NO place in numismatics or anywhere else as far as that goes.

In a perfect world, only threads that interested me would appear on this forum. What I do is just ignore threads which don't interest me, such as those about the Carr Peace $, E-bay, Moderns, etc. I realize that other members here find these interesting, so they can have at it.

I'm not sure why you are so frustrated DIMEMAN. Why don't you just not click on the posts? 85% of the people last polled don't think it's a counterfeit coin. That doesn't make it right or wrong. But if the PCGS gurus did not allow posts on this coin, it would discourage conversation here about other topics. It's not in the spirit of this board. image

Maybe if D Carr would make you a special dime you would be happy? image

I enjoy the threads. To each their own. It is not difficult to ignore a thread and it is not like you are forced to click on it or start one of your own. Minus the occasional D Carr post that has a bit of spam or hype, for the most part, this has been an ongoing discussion with plenty of interest from both sides. Although I will agree that the counterfeit vs not debate is truly a dead horse, there has been plenty of interesting posts and pics regarding D Carr's Peace Dollar.

Calling it crap, is a bit rude in my opinion too. Once again, to each their own.

Isn't it strange that someone wants the treads about "Pease" dollars to go POOF, but starts another. Everyone who expressed an opinion about them already has, but you bring it up again. Somebody said that publicity is good, even if it is bad (poor translation, I know). D Carr must love all of this free publicity, now everyone knows his website.

That was not the "new rules" except as interpreted by some posters here. Feel free to link to where someone in authority said NO pictures. They said no OVERSIZED pictures. I am in that thread, and was not notified that my sig line was too large. As a matter of fact, I cut it down to size because of that thread after doing some research. And there is no advertising in my posts.

    Here is a cut-n-paste:
More and more I see people with multiple links, large images, animated gifs and all sorts of distractions in thier signature lines. Signature lines are turning into grandstands. This is not permitted.

I'll wait for clarification on it from DW, but the grandstands things seems to me to include all types of large images.
However, the title is under advertising.

So, perhaps you are right, and circumstantially you are backed since DW didn't tell you to drop the picture.

I guess all, so far as can be determined, DimeMan would need to do would be to make the two links fall on one line...

85% of the people last polled don't think it's a counterfeit coin.

this is an interesting statement, but let's look at the results of the "Poll" you referenced(BTW, i had to answer now in order to see the results):

The coin is a "private restrike".
    39 (votes) 16.88 (%)
It's a "privately struck fantasy", not a counterfeit, because the originals were not overstrikes.
    74 (votes) 32.03 (%)
It's a counterfeit, but it would not be a counterfeit if it were marked "COPY".
    33 (votes) 14.29 (%)
It can't be called a counterfeit until an original 64-D surfaces.
    47 (votes) 20.35 (%)
It's a counterfeit, plain and simple.
    38 (votes) 16.45 (%)

what i interpret from these results isn't anywhere near 85%...........................it seems that 48.91% don't think it's a counterfiet, while 30.74% think it's a counterfiet and 20.35% would call it a counterfiet if a real one surfaced. perhaps it somehow was around 85% non-counterfiet when you replied to this thread but apparently it's closer to 50-50 now. this is really a very poor thing to reference to begin with due to the small number of respondents-----231 or way less than 1% of the registered PCGS Forum membership, but i digress.

in actuality there probably aren't very many PCGS forum members who really care about these medals in a positive way, they just tend to be the most vocal and keep the ship afloat. then there are those like Dimeman who are vocal about disliking the things. by far the majority of members don't care one way or the other and they never let anyone know.
  • DIMEMANDIMEMAN Posts: 22,403 ✭✭✭✭✭

It's not that I just don't like them, which I don't. I don't like anything that is not real.

My main issue with it is that it does NOT belong in numismatics.....plain and simple.

These boards are for REAL U.S. coins..therefore these fake man made medals do not belong on this forum.

If it never existed, it would be a fantasy (kind of like me and Meg Ryan). But since it did exist (and possibly still exists), it's an obvious copy - even if none exist, it's still copy of a Peace dollar with a fantasy date. Either way, it's unarguably a copy. If it were a fantasy piece (meaning a copy of nothing) there would be little to no interest in the item. There's ONLY interest because it's a COPY of a 1964-D Peace dollar, there's profit to be made and it's controversial.
