Respectfully, you can't authoritatively make that statement until a court agrees with it. Until that time, you are only opening stating your opinion. And, the very nice Large Cent has numismatic value only as long as a buyer thinks so.

Based on recient sales, they are worth a lot more than melt. Apparently you haven't been paying attention.

While the Carr 1964 Peace Dollars are apparently only worth melt to YOU, obviously, they are worth considerably more to many others. And, although I think they very well MIGHT violate the HPA, I believe that it is premature and misguided to declare it as fact.

I don't know if others have noticed, but the polls here prove that attitudes towards this coin are changing. It seems like every time a poll is done, the approval of this coin gains share. Last poll puts it at 85%. This trend will continue, especially as new collectors are introduced to this coin with am open mind.
Now, they are pushing 400$ and I think this story is still becoming known to general collectors. Supply and Demand is a major factor, and I think right now this market is in stage 2 accumulation and ramping up.
The wise should hold onto theirs. The fewer that make the market at this stage, the higher prices will go. Every collector who is made newly aware of them will hit that BIN and as demand increases the BINs will go UP^^.
Ebay of course now has came into play, so the pathway for collectors to purchase these is now open.
An interesting scenario is about to be played out....
When, and IF, the stage 3 crest is met, and prices begin to FALL____ is a matter which we cannot really evaluate since this situation is unique in some ways, it could reach a crest and maintain for a long period.
Theres also no doubt a flip factor at work here also, and if the second purchaser will be a long term holder...or flip again..thats a factor too....

Here is a a quad struck on Ebay that will end this evening. This was the original coin that some here predicted would be worth melt. LINK The person who purchases this coin will be able to sell it for much more down the road.

A certain dealer trying to buy on eBay is sending out messages, to sellers with open auctions, like this:... "Our contact person at eBay tells us they will pull all listings that have a bid placed. They usually do this with somewhere from 2-8 hours left, but have done some after the listing ended. A dealer friend of ours who purchased some of our original purchase tells us he has had all 9 of his listing pulled. 2 where pulled yesterday after he had contacted eBay to assurance that they were properly listed. As to pricing, we have in stock 17 Matte Proofs, so I begin to wonder about mintage figures also. We are currently listing a Buy/Sell spread of $375/$425. Would like to remain in the $375 range. If you want to wait to see what happens with yours, no problem as our offer will stand unless we notify you before the end of the auction. I hope yours clears with no problem! Some owners like to seem them pulled because they think it raises the value of those the have while others, us included, think this makes the piece look more spurious and decreases the value. I guess people that "invest" in stocks are "greedy" too.
Just for reference I checked on eBay and there are 9 "1964-D" over-strikes listed currently.
The key-date 1928 (Philadelphia) Peace dollar currently has about 300 listings.
So I wouldn't say that the market is "flooded".
But the potential for a quick profit will always bring more of something out of the woodwork.

What's the holding period that must pass before you sell something for a gain before it's not considered motivated by greed?
I'm just asking, because I generally don't flip but I also don't intend to take a bath on the coins I buy or sell.
Unlike Gordon Gecko, I don't think that greed is good, but I do think that being financially responsible and investment-saavy are somewhat admirable traits.

I respectfully disagree , it was greed that got this country into the mess it's in. It's greed that outsourced jobs , greed that seeing more and more people homeless and unemployed every day.

The survival rate for the 1928 Peace Dollar is a very small percentage of the original mintage.

right not I dont think you will find but a very few DCPDs in dealer cases at shows, in relation to the vast number of original coins.
Ebay is the single venue at this point to find one...and NINE are offered? It is what it is, a reflection of the mintage of less than 2000 and mostly all NOT for sale at this point.

I kept some for myself. I made these in the first place because I wanted one (or several).
I'm not selling mine, except for maybe a couple leftovers that I kept in reserve in case of

I have four of them and have zero interest in selling. Ever. I suspect the vast majority of those who bought these from dcarr himself, especially those who bought early, have any interest in flipping them.
How many peace dollar collectors will have an opportunity to own just one of them? Certainly less than two thousand--probably fewer than a thousand based on the number of folks who, like me, own multiple examples. How many will have the ability to have the 5-piece collection of these? A few hundred, tops.
Bravo to the flippers. Nothing wrong with making a buck. But don't ask for mine. They're not for sale.
