Hi. Here's your opportunity to show off your favorite coin, token, or medal again. This is more than just another random picture post, though. I'm up to something, but I'm going to keep the specifics of that under my hat for the time being. All will be revealed in due time, if I end up using anyone's coins.
Here's what I need.
***UPDATE*** I've got all I need for the project now, but if you still want to post your favorite coin, well, go right on ahead! Thanks to all who posted.
1. Clear, high-resolution obverse and reverse pictures that are big enough so that each side of the coin will be at least, oh, maybe 300 x 300 pixels. I will resize the pictures to suit my purposes, of course, so there is no need to conform to any particular size (although I would prefer that your obverses and reverses be the same size as each other). I just want to make sure I have an original big enough to work from. The pictures must be shot perpendicularly to the coin, i.e., each side of the coin must appear round in the photos rather than angled and elliptical.
1b. Update: please bear in mind that the final reproduction these pictures will be fairly small, so if your picture is too dark the details might suffer when the image is reduced. Likewise if your coin has wild colors- I'll try to reproduce them as best I can, but when shrinking stuff down it sometimes loses image quality, as any of you who have made custom avatars know. As a matter of fact, pretend we're making new icons/avatars, here, and try to imagine your picture shrunken down to about that size.
1c. Update 2: sorry, but I can't use NGC coins in the current-generation edge-view holders. The "prongs" get in the way, so that when I put your coin on a white background, it will look like somebody came over and took four bites out of it!
2. US and World coins, Ancient and Medieval coins, Tokens and Medals all qualify. I do prefer that they be mostly round, though (though slightly off-center errors and ancients need not be perfectly round). Although I'm a holey coin enthusiast, for this project we'll be wanting problem-free coins.
3. Eye appeal counts more than rarity, technical grade, or monetary value. I want "eye candy" for these, and would rather see a picture of a truly beautiful but common coin rather than an ugly but rare piece. Which isn't to say I want all Mint State and Proof coins- nice circulated pieces are certainly acceptable, particularly for earlier types.
4. I want variety. For example, if somebody else has already posted a nice Lincoln cent, try not to post another Lincoln cent. If you're a Lincoln cent specialist and that's all you have, though, go ahead. I'll only end up using one Lincoln cent in the end, but if there are multiple candidates that are hard for me to choose from I suppose I can always have a poll to see which one should be used (again, based only on eye appeal alone- rarity, technical grade, and value are irrelevant).
5. By posting your pictures, you agree to allow me to reproduce them. Don't worry- I promise there's no nefarious scheme at play here. I just had a semi-creative idea and if it goes off as planned, 'll reveal what all this is about later.
Let's see some eye candy again! Please, post your most-loved coin or token, and thanks!

<< <i>since the first contributor submitted a classic Commem, does that fill the slot for commems in general or are you seeking a type for each individual commem? >>
Another classic commem is fine- just not another Grant, preferably.
WillieBoyd2- you KNEW I love your Antoninus Pius aureus and have admired it before- thanks very much for posting it.
'dude
Hope this works for your project...

I really need to get around to making a webpage for all my coin images someday...
EDIT - If someone else wants to take Italy, I'll go with this one instead for the talking point value... this is Sassanid (Persian empire, Khusru II, Bishapur mint) from the year of the Hajj, first year of the Islamic calendar (622AD). I have a few Biblical related coins, but I'm sure someone else can cover that.
My wantlist & references
Charlottedude- 1798 half eagle rec'd. (It IS a $5, right?)
AuroraBorealis- that's a wild monster Morgan, for sure, but as with Ilafoe's medal, I'm concerned that the final edit of the pictures, once they're reduced to the size I need, will be too dark. If I go brightening it, I'll probably screw up those colors. I'll try, though.
MidLifeCrisis- as I said via PM, your Myddelton token is great.
Thanks, all.
Yellowkid- nice Conder, but I worry about how it will look when reduced in size, due to the color and the presence of lots of small lettering. Also, I'm afraid the NGC "prongs" get in the way, so I probably won't be able to use that one, sweet though the token is. Feel free to try again, if you have another piece or another picture of that one.
AuroraBorealis- thank you for posting the toner but I think Todd's Morgan above will work better for the purposes of this project. Do feel free to post something different if you like, though.
Can't beat a double headed Eagle
And last but not least, my newest pickup. Obverse die cut by Bolen
1872 Libertas Americana / John W. Kline store card. Tin, 25.4mm, 6.4 grams. Musante JAB K-5. A well-made example of the Libertas-Kline card in tin.
The Libertas Americana tradition: This beautiful obverse personification of Liberty was copied, to some extent,
by Joseph Wright and other early United States Mint engravers for federal copper coinage of the 1793-1796 era.
In later times the motif continued to be admired. Inspired by the design, the combination of the liberty cap and
Miss Liberty appeared in other forms as well, including Christian Gobrecht's silver coinage of the 1830s,
extending for some denominations to 1891, and on many patterns, medals, and other productions.
In the 1870s, J.A. Bolen produced his own version which was employed on certain store cards and Centennial Exhibition related items.
In the 1970s Chief Engraver Frank Gasparro produced a version of the Liberty Cap motif which at the time was considered for
use on the metallic dollar and was enthusiastically endorsed by the numismatic community (however, the Susan Anthony motif was used);
an earlier version of Gasparro's Liberty Cap design had appeared on an ANA medal, in which connection he worked with ANA executive director Ed Rochette.

NO MORE MORGAN DOLLARS, PLEASE! They're nice of course, but I only want one, and I'm going with Todd's.
<< <i>I did own this proof crown, and since no one here admitted to being the smart, winning floor bidder, I'll offer it up if you might want to use it.
Gorgeous!
<< <i>
You're kidding, right?
Edit- ah, technical difficulties, huh? Sorry, but I can't use that bigger picture either.
Mac- that crown is definitely in!

truecollector70- Sorry, but the Virgil Brand medal just won't work, at least not as pictured. Thanks for sharing it, though.
lkeigwin- I think the grey Pilgrim half will work, so there is our Pilgrim half, unless somebody has a nicer one (only because lkeigwin said that wasn't his favorite).
Southcounty- there's our Oregon Trail half. Thanks.

ldhair- I think that'll work. There's our Bust dollar. (Edit- whoops, I mean Draped half. So now we have both Draped and Capped Bust halves.)
Think I need something like 30 more coins, now.
<< <i>CertifiedGoldCoins- a little shadowy towards the bottom of the obverse, maybe, but I'll try it.

Sorry. I should have said. Bust Half.

If that doesn't work, try an ancient from my Web site (link in my sig.)
Good luck with your project!

I will also be using a coin from my daughter's 1901 British Empire type set, but after Mac posted that mindblowing proof crown, I didn't want to post a second Old Veiled Head Victoria. So here she is with a younger portrait, on a Canadian dime. (Never mind that she died an old widow the year that coin was struck, and hadn't looked like that portrait for decades).

Oh, I dunno. I suppose I could make them work, but honestly I'd rather use that little Mexican gold piece you had the TrueView of, if you still have that picture.
<< <i>How many you want? >>
One coin per member, please, though if you aren't sure your first choice will work, you may post an alternate as well.
ModCrewman- I like the contrast on that proof quarter. There's our Washington quarter, as far as I'm concerned.
