It has toning... now RickO is going to enter the thread and make a comment about the tarnish. You KNOW you need to place an ROTTEN rating on any thread with toning! (ROTTEN=RickOTarnishThreadEmergencyNotice)

I do too but I doubt it will ever be mine short of winning the lotto

Nice! Very Nice! Clearly it's not just your kind of gold, or it wouldn't be worth what it is.

I love this design as well. But it seems difficult to find examples that haven't been messed with, even in problem free holders. This example is truly choice though.

And the price is not in the "if I won the lottery" range.

I have a 1799 eagle, but it's a nice AU, and it's not as nice as the one that started this thread. I've owned it for a long time. This is picture I took before it went off to PCGS to become an AU-55

I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

Seriously, tho' if you're talkin' Liteside gold, then yeah, I gotta agree with you. That coin in the OP would be right up my alley. (If not my budget).

I'd like a scrawnier eagle with a wreath in his mouth, though.

Here is my half eagle. Graded AU55 by ANACS. small white holder. I'm in process of upgrading.

Since gold does not tarnish (I know, but copper does), I would call the OP's coin 'slightly crusty'... and gold is good in any condition...image Cheers, RickO
